Most likely you dont know the hole story. I would stay out of it and dont take sides. Offer the 17 year old a place to stay and establish some rules that the place to stay depends on. Dont allow yourself to get involved in a situation where the child moves back and forth between parents depending on what rule is being enforced that week. The daughter will be 18 soon so it wont matter much.

I can understand your feelings... any 40 year old woman who marries a 25 year old boy is a little "off" anyway... it sounds like the step daughter has lived a dysfunctional life at the hands of her mother.
I think the best thing you can do is let the daughter stay with you where she's safe... you can always take her to a therapist for help and support... therapists can help her realize that what has happened at the hands of mother is not her fault. She can hopefully learn some good coping skills and find a good, solid direction for her own life.
Ignore the girl's mother.. just gather your dignity, act like a lady and set a good example (and kicking her mom's azz isn't a good example)
take care.

Sounds like the kid's mother is having one last hurrah with a young boy-toy while she still can.
Sounds like your husband needs to go to court and file for child support benefits for taking in the 17 year-old. That alone will really cheese the b*tch off!
The daughter has 1 year until she hits 18, and must be supported through college.
Try to give the step-child the emotional support she needs and do what you can to provide stability for her at this time. Coach her. Help her get through this last year of high school and help her find a career and college to get the training for it... and make her mom pay child support the whole time.

As her step mom show her much love, also hit mom where it hurts in the pocketbook, take her to court for child support. She sounds like one very insecure woman, you never choose a man or woman over your children. One day she is going to wake up and find "boy toy" gone and she is all alone.

i'm just here to give you props for caring. i have a stepmom too, and she is very supportive. i swear i hate how they always show the stepmom on movies as the evil one. well keep up the good work! i'm pretty sure you get along with your stepdaughter

Truly amazing...I just don't understand that - in reality, the stepdad is (should) always take second place to the kids...that's the way it is...but beatings?!? That's just absurd!
