Yes there is. The Capitol Limited leaves DC at 4:05 PM. It gets into Chicago at 8:40 AM the next morning. The return train (also the Capitol Limited) leaves Chicago at 7:05 PM and arrives back in DC at 1:30 PM the next day. Total elapsed time is about 21.5 hrs.

there is also the Cardinal, but it would take longer than 24 hrs for a round trip.

Afraid not. It's an overnight train. You'd have one night on the train each way.
