Hell NO! That is just insane!! That's a big down payment on a future....which will hopefully be the rest of their lives! Why waste it on 1 day!

You can get married in the courthaouse for as little as the cost of a license (roughly $300 total where I am). I attended a wedding this weekend in the range of $250,000. So you generally work with what you have by creating a budget first and then figuring out what you can spend on what. Unless you want exactly what I am having, in the exact same venues and area, my budget is useless for you. But you asked... We've so far spent roughly ~$25k. We'll probably end up spending ~$30k in the end. I am paying for everything for my BMs, their dresses, hair, makeup, jewelery, etc. We're having a church ceremony followed by a vintner's reception at a local winery for 170 people. We're doing tons of fresh flowers and a lot of handmade accents. We're having a DJ and hired an amazing photographer. We've got the typical limo. Our dinner is a formal sit-down five-course French style meal preceeded by hot and cold plated and butlered h'ors d'ouveres. Plenty of options on the menu and the dessert is a Viennese sweets table (our cake will be boxed for the guests to take home). We're doing larger favors than normal in that we're giving a wine and cheese basket to each couple that includes a bottle of personalized wine from the winery, a selection of artisan cheese and some gourmet chocolates accented by a set of handblown glass grapes for decoration (we have snacks and drink baskets for the non-drinkers/underaged as well). Our wedding will create a very luxurious atmosphere for our guests which is what we are aiming for. Good luck!

Yes I would!
But only if it included buying the property on which i held the wedding. Preferably this property would have a large land area and is palatial.
No way would I spend it on just a wedding. Really, food and flowers can't cost that much, they must have gone for the most expensive on everything.

what a waste of money. I would have taken it and invested it long term. So many of those " Platinum Weddings" end in complete disasters. I keep in mind a person in Jamaica who had a $6.2 million JA wedding, food flowin by helicopter into Central JA, only to find his wife in bed with another man 6 months later. I would have said, buy a long term investment like a house or secure stocks and bonds before I do something like that. My friends know that if I ever say I would spend that kind of money on a 1 day event, they can slap me because I must have absolutely lost it.

Heck no there's a lot of things I can do with that money: travel, put a nice down payment on a house, etc. I agree that that is a huge amount to spend on one day. I think $10,000-$15,000 is probably sufficient to have a nice wedding. Then put the rest away.

No way would I ever drop that much money on a wedding. I'd rather get married like I am, at the courthouse and a reception dinner after, and use the money to invest in something we need or a fun vacation or save the money for something else.

I watch that show on VH1 and I can't afford what some of those couples do. If I had $100,000+, I'd pay off my mortgage.

That's a whole lot of money. I can't even figure out HOW you would spend that much. Even with the fanciest of things it's incromprehensible to me that it could add up to that much.
