My kitten is 7 months old. He has had bad breath for some time, but I brush his teeth regularly and give him anti-tartar treats. I also feed him dry food vs. wet food. He's a talker, but he's been crying a lot more lately. I just looked in his mouth, and he is losing a BIG tooth in the back on the left side. What's wrong? Does he need Vet attention? Should I just let it fall out? Help me please! He's my best friend and I don't want him to be in pain. Can I give him some Orajel or something?

He also has some kind of slight developmental problem. His entire family is small. He looks about 5 months, but he's a little over seven.

Kittens, like all mammals, loose their baby teeth. He's about the right age for that so it could be completely normal.

If you have a concern, call the vet and ask them when, on average, a kitten looses their molars.

Yep, it's vet time. I didn't even know that cats had baby teeth, so I would imagine that shedding them is normally a painless process. If your kitty seems to be in pain, a call to the vet is in order. They should be able to advise you from there.

But FYI, dry food isn't good for the teeth. It doesn't clean them. Canned food doesn't rot them either. I'm not sure why people think dry food is more nutritious, but it's actually the other way around. Dry food is the sugary stuff, canned food will almost always contain at least some form of meat and doesn't have as many fillers as a rule.

Just something to keep in mind for future.

he is loosing a baby tooth, but do not ever give your cat human meds. if it is that loose and you can get it and pull out, without him bitting you, then you can try to do that. you would probably be happy once it's done. Usually though, a kitten at 7 months has all of it's adult teeth. Are you sure he's 7 months? He could just be slow at loosing them if he is.

Take him to the vet! Poor thing. His tooth needs to be pulled because if he is in that much pain he might consider to not eat.
