.........take the place of unmanned reconnisance planes? I heard where the USAF were strapping cameras to the bald eagle & having the bird fly over enemy territoty.

Do you think the bald eagles is the best bird for this type of task?

Yes, that is true. It is however, a classified "black" project. But, since you have already spoiled it, I will explain. 1. It's patriotic 2. Its more cost-efficient 3. Why have an unarmed plane buzzing around when a bird can drop "homemade" bombs and claw the **** out of insurgents? 4. Its very well suited because it has a mean attitude after enduring all those bald jokes. Damn, I shouldn't have said that, I'm off to Guantanamo.

I think you are being extremely silly and gullible. And it is obvious you know very little about raptors (hawks, owls, falcons, eagles, etc.) First, the Bald Eagle is still an endangered species, so using them as suicide bombers would be a violation of federal law. And the Animal Rights fanatics would go completely bonkers if we did this. Second, the Bald Eagle is not native to the Middle East, so any sighting would immediately be suspicious, and the bird would be shot down before it could deliver any ordnance. Third, the Bald Eagle doesn't hunt humans -- it hunts fish and small game. So you couldn't train it to attack humans. The only reason a trained raptor would go to a human was if the human was holding food -- so the only time it would attack would be at lunch or dinner, when the bad guys are hiding in the shade, out of sight. Not a particularly efficient system. Finally, as you said, the Bald Eagle doesn't have enough lift capability to deliver a bomb big enough to do significant damage. Final tally -- Effective scheme - 0, Totally ridiculous idea - 4. Thank you, but try again. ================== Camels as carriers of surreptitious bombs -- possible, very possible. The North Vietnamese and Viet Cong used to strap bombs onto water buffalo and send them in the direction of American Soldiers with some success. Of course, we don't have too many camels in the US. And then, if we were to use camel bombs, I'm sure the Liberals and PETA would immediately start screaming bloody murder about our unethical, inhumane methods of conducting the war. So that rules out that idea, too.

Seriously doubt it and don't know you would have gotten that info. Some animals have been trained to do some things for the military but I doubt if bald eagles would be used-first off not that many of them, symbolic importance and because they are native to North American and not found much of anywhere else. If you were going to train a bird for something like that you would use one that does not attract attention and a bald eagle in many parts of the world would attract attention.

LOL NO! the bald eagle is still considered ENDANGERED! there is no way we would intentionally put an endangered bird into harms way especially the bald eagle. The fact you think there is an ounce of truth to this AMAZES me.

Better to use a bald eagle than a sparrow as it would need to be a larger bird in order to carry the camera.

The military often train animals to do the dirty work.

i think in this day and age everything is been beyound its limit; therefore there are no limits. our national bird should be left alone. a sign of the times as far as i'm concerned. that's not good.
