I just put candles, matches and flahlights in all the rooms. I can hardly wait. The yard will be so flooded I'll be stuck inside all day tomorrow if the weather folks are right. They are usually wrong 80% of the time. I do feel something is to give, the back yard is crawling with birds of all kinds and they are not fighting with each other this has NEVER happened before EVER.

Do the birds know something we humans don't. Any bird experts reading this?

Well the big storm did not hit. A day later we had a little rain and wind. Cannot say I was disappointed however.

It's been fairly serene the last few days. Just a drizzle even of
rain. But we saw gale force winds a week ago with a storm
to end all storms in the Northwest. The coastal locations and
the main I-5 corridor was shut down north of us, due to flooding over the freeway in many locations. So we need a
bit of peace now. There are still people without power in one
town in Oregon, and in parts of a Washington state town that
was flooded as well with homes and farms lost. One elderly
man of 92 saw his home and belongings go under. And he
is grieving over a lifetime of possessions lost. Including a
valued rifle collection, I read about. It is so hard to lose what
has been collected over an adult lifetime. And can never be
replaced. I know from my own past experience on that. And
it's a grieving that often never stops.
Glad to hear you are preparing for this storm you speak of.
These two towns I mentioned, had no warning to floods. They
expected only heavy winds. Who knew rivers would break
their banks and flood highways, and mud slides would come
down on areas with homes. Freaks of nature all! And the
National Guard is still helping to take care of those homeless.

I don't know where you're at, but I moved south about 18 mo. ago, because I was so sick of the giant storms we got in Ohio, year after year. We got what was called "Lake Effect" snows & when the snow machine started up, it never shut off until late April. I'm glad you have you are prepared for a power outage, should one occur. I hope it's not as bad as they're predicting but if it is, I hope you stay warm & safe. As for the birds, they do sense things about weather, before humans do. Our weather here in South Carolina, these past two days has been cooler, rainy, & very windy, especially today. This is the backlash of the terrible weather that the midwest & northeast is getting. For the last two weeks, we were enjoying near 80° temps, along with lots of sunshine. The colder weather will be around for a while but that's okay, because the sun is always shining here. By the middle of the week, the normal winter temps will be here again. (daytime highs will be in the mid to upper 50's & the nighttime lows will be in the high 20's to upper 30's & no snow. That's the best part!!!!!!!

Here in No. Calif. we are getting a series of rain storms. the small one came last night and is passing thru now. The next is supposed to be a big one and bring heavy rain. Then two more, so it will be rain, rain all week. The Sierra's are supposed to get hit with heavy snow all week long too. So I guess this will all be heading your way East very soon. Lows in the 30's and highs in the low 50's, all week long.

We just had our bada** storm last week, and are now headed for a warm spell, after a snow yesterday. (If you don't like Missouri weather, wait a minute, it will change, lol!) Supposed to be in the 50's this week so will be a good time to clean up after the ice storm. I still have huge piles of brush and tree limbs to burn or put on the brush piles, and the insurance adjuster to deal with. Lots of work, plenty of time to clean up before the next one! We haven't even hit January yet, and that is usually our worst weather here. Good luck with your weather, hope it is better than ours was.

Lots of spare batteries in case your power goes out, ours was out for 6 days and some of our city still is out.

Birds sense changes in weather, barometric pressure and maybe magnetic changes, so look out!

I'm in Southern Ontario and we have been hit by the worst storm in years. I made sure my shovel was by the front door because I hate having to plough my way to the garage. We managed to shovel out the driveway but it's supposed to snow all night again. Our street hasn't been ploughed yet and that will mean more shovelling before we can get out in the morning. We are fourtunate where we live as all our power lines are below ground so at least we won't freeze in the dark like some folks. We didn't get snow at this time last year at all so it is rather a shock.
Hey trixi f , I grew up in Hamilton.

I live in Hamilton Ontario and we have have been hit with a pretty good snow storm. I didn't even bother to get dressed today :) It has been snowing for two days, (as well as ice pellets) and we are still under a storm watch. We were told to brace ourselves for high winds, white out conditions etc. Like yourself, I was very excited (love a good storm) and prepared with candles, flashlights, wood for the fire and even went to pick up some extra groceries in case the power went out. No such luck.

Hopefully your storm will give you the adrenaline rush you are wishing for!

We had our 'BIG SNOW STORM' (to quote the weatherman) yesterday morning - yes we got about 2" - but today the sun came out and the snow turned to water and flushed the itsy bitsy spider down the water spout!

Meterologists are like politicians - both are paid to lie! And -
why DOES IT HAVE TO BE A STORM - can't we just have a large snow fall? Yes the roads are slick, but what do you expect after such weather conditions?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Animals and birds sense things I believe. They are getting ready for your storm.
Sorry, I live in the southwest and don't get any snow or freezing temps. It will be in the 40s tonight and 60 tomorrow. Take heart though. I have to be in 122% temps here in the summer. Brutal !!!
