I am also a JW, I was raised one... I NEVER felt left out. I actually liked it, I got to get excused from class. :) We constantly had gifts given to us all year round, plus on my mom and dads anniversary, we got gifts also.
Now today, with my two kids.... Are they deprived? HA! No way! We joke around about how spoiled our kids are, they lack for nothing. Yet, in the process we have a clear conscience that we are doing right before God, Jehovah.
We clearly explain to our boys the wrongness of it. Of course we have to Tailor it for each child since they are different ages. As they grow up, so does their spiritual knowledge and they are able to understand more and grasp more of the facts of why it is wrong.
Thank you for the great question! :)

There is nothing sad about receiving presents throughout the year.Enjoying parties throughout the year.Enjoy get togethers throughout the year.
The childen of Jehovahs Witnesses miss out on nothing.
They dont have to wait for a certain time of the year as do other children. The children of Jehovahs Witnesses understand only too well why they dont take part in pagan celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. They have everything explained to them. They go to meetings with their parents and understand their religious beliefs as best they can for their particular ages.Never do any of them think they are punished for not attending or partaking in pagan celebrations.
These things are not 'innocent' as you claim.Thousands of Israelites lost their lives mixing pure worship with pagan celebrations.
Jehovahs Witnesses want only the best for their children. What better gift can there be than everlasting life on a paradise earth? - Some cheap toys now?? I dont think so.

No not at all. Do you suppose all the Jewish or Muslim children are sad that they don't go to Christmas parties? What about Buddhists or Hindu children?
" from seemingly innocent things"
Why did you use the above phrase?
"since they are less likely to understand and see it as a form of punishment."
Funny I never saw it as such but then my parents took the time to explain it to us. Our children don't see it as punishment either because we took the time to explain it to them as well.

Witnesses don't do things just cuz 'everybody else is doin it'. Unlike a lot of religions who just go with the flow, Witnesses actually live by bible standards. If that means not celebrating pagan holiday parties, so be it. We still have tons of fun, and probably moreso than most people who celebrate holidays, because lets be honest: holidays are a stressful time period. You're basically being forced to buy presents with money you don't have, for people you don't know or don't even like. The 'religious and commercial system become completely intertwined at the holiday season. Nowhere in the bible does it command us to celebrate holidays. If you look up the origin for most of these holidays, you will see that they are pagan and based on purely false teachings.
So to answer your question, yes, Jehovah's Witness kids are missing out. Missing out on the stress. Missing out on being taught paganism. Missing out on displeasing God by embracing completely false teachings under the diguise of just having a little holiday fun'. Yep, they're missin out!! :-)

When I was little I didn't participate in these holidays and when kids would ask me why I didn't participate I proudly told them why. Holidays are about gifts and I was never deprived of gifts on other special days of the year. A child would only be sad if he/she didn't understand why he/she didn't celebrate these holidays. You can make any day just like a holiday technically by giving gifts and having a family dinner on a particular day. What other difference is there besides decorations? I'm sure a child would not be traumatized by not being able to have holiday decorations up and celebrating gift-exchange and a dinner on a day other people use when they have this on a different day - a day that doesn't have pagan celebration origin.

properly the comparable way that we've a private call and would desire to be pronounced as by making use of our call somewhat of guy, woman, Boy & so forth is the comparable way that God feels. Psalms 80 3:18 says "would human beings understand which you, whose call is Jehovah,You on my own are the main extreme over each and every of the earth." the fact that his call is pronounced interior the Bible shows God needs his call to be popular & because of the fact that we are his witnesses or followers, we are pronounced as Jehovah's Witnesses.

I raised 6 children in the truth of Jehovah.
We had a local grocer that commented....I don't know how you do it but it's as every day was Christmas for your children...you never refuse them anything.
My children looked forward to the winter season when the toys hit the stores. We would start buying them toys in October and the majority after December..They were not deprived and got to enjoy the toys and everyone else had to wait.
as for birthdays..we had cakes and ice cream whenever they wanted..I would buy the traditional birthday cake and have them scrape off the birthday part and just put Happy (our last name)
When we got paid and I went shopping for clothes, I would come home and wrap them.
Each weekend the kids got to pick the entertainment....sometimes it was each one have a friend over (all at the same time) ..it was a blast.
It just takes wanting to treat your kids well...after we would go in service on Saturday we would do something special.
And to be able to go in service with their friends they would get a car as soon as they were of age.
Jehovah's Witness kids are pretty responsible and have their head on straight....they still get into some trouble but not the bad stuff...
Jehovah protected my children.

Well we know that at least 11 JW's read this question! I only read about 1/2 the answers so far but will go back after I'm finished here. I have a HUGE opinion about JW's and well... I have chosen to keep most of it to myself. I have family who have entered this religion. (or cult as some of you have pointed out) They have nothing to do with anyone in the family unless they need money. We according to them are evil because we are Christians and follow the pagan lifestyle because of Christmas, Birthdays Halloween New years. etc. They do however love to celebrate themselves! The only thing they celebrate is wedding anniversary's. Yes that's right because they are self centered and judgmental people who think the world should revolve around them. And all for what? The CHANCE to make it through to heaven. Only a chosen few of the JW's will make it through.
So yes long story short its very sad to keep children from activities at school because of their religion. The schools have been forced to change everything in how they go about celebrating now anyway. All the party's are now is just that a party to celebrate a long vacation. Thanks to the people who love to suck the fun out of the holidays for everyone else!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

JWs are in fact happier because they are doing God's will and do not get involved with celebrations that dishonor God and Jesus. The kids also receive gifts from loving parents and friends any time of the year and doesn't have to wait for December to get one. I know a lot of JWs who grew up as JWs and they are proud to be serving Jehovah and a lot happier. True happiness comes from the fact that you are doing God's will and not just material things.

These things seem innocent to you, but to God its not. The Bible tells us to raise our kids and teach them things that come from the Bible, and rejecting things such as pagan things comes along with that.
We don't wait once a month to gather as a family, theres many other days of the month to do that.
