One who continues to argue , just to win, is an idiot.
It is said in scriptures that one should never enter into an argument with an idiot.

When you confront someone make sure your information is absolutely correct, and you can verify your facts. That usually will take the wind from their sails. Being prepared for a confrontation is half the battle of winning in a conversation. If you can prove yourself the normal person will finally think twice about arguing.

This person has a deep seated "need" to be right because he has no self-esteem. He is probably a know-it-all who is yakking all the time anyway.
Your basic response... if simply stating your view only feeds the fire... is to WALK AWAY.
Any time he comes up with something else, diffuse the situation by saying "I have nothing to say to that" and then walk away.
Keep this person out of your energy. If you don't feed him, he won't show up to make a meal out of you.
