Great book, great movie... and interestingly, in ancient numerology, 42 would be the ultimate answer - put together, 4 and 2 stands for happiness and peace in life... and really, isn't that what we should all be working towards?

Your question has to be about the Creator of life, the universe and everything. We ask questions like that of designers, planners, creators.
There is no purpose and therefore, no meaning and therefore,, no point to anything unless we assume there is God as per this atheist:
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
