It is intended to be difficult so we move beyond living life in our own power to allowing Jesus to work through us. That was the whole point of that huge law that Moses received for the Israelites. To show us that we aren't good enough, our own righteousness is lacking. If we could follow it all on our own, what would we need Jesus for?
His ultimate intention for our lives is to live in the power of Christ. I think that very few of us actually walk in that power, and that is why we don't see as many miracles as are possible. We function too much on our own power and wisdom.
What glory does God get when we do what is humanly possible? But when we are vessels used in performing a miracle, people can do nothing but give glory to our Father in Heaven.

Two reasons:
(1) Our own inherited human imperction
(2) The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one (1 John 5:19)

It requires complete selflessness. Before I got to know Jesus Christ, I had already been thoroughly trained to be selfish. Old habits are very difficult (if not impossible) to break without the Holy Spirit. Bottom-line selfishness.

Because people misconstrue what he was talking about.
The main theme throughout the Bible is to trust God, believe what He says, and things will be well with you, you will have peace with Him. Don't trust Him, and things will not be well for you and you will not have peace.
What has become Christianity is the believe that we must make ourselves better for God. That is a lie. It is also said that in Christianity that we should be sinless, when it was admitting that we are sinners to God that chased us to God in the first place, so that is an aberration as well.
If Christians are taught to trust God, and are given examples of how to trust God, they will return to the main lesson of the Bible. But first they have to stop focusing on themselves so much.

A real answer: because it is our nature as humans to crave self-gratification. Jesus preached that there are things more important than our base instincts. Therefore, it is very hard to deny one's own urges. But to really be "enlightened and high minded," we must persevere.

It isn't. It is an easy choice to make, but sadly most Christians don't even bother. They prefer to ignore everything that Jesus had to say, but still worship him as GOD and continue sinning because they believe that idolatry can save them from hellfire. They could not be more wrong.

Because his life was written almost half a lifetime after he was crusified. I have trouble remembering what my mom said about my sisters new job...let alone word for word quotations...that was 3 days ago.
