It could be ear mites or an infection. That's what I would suspect from what you've said. Get him in to the vet as soon as you can and get it cleared up. I've never tried any home remedies so I'm really hesitant to suggest something. Maybe call the vet and make an appointment and just describe the dog's symptoms and ask if there's anything you should or could do for him before you bring him in. Your vet may not want to suggest anything until he or she sees your dog, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Touch the ear and massage the base if your dog squeals or seems in pain, go to the vet.
Look inside it might be dirty (You can buy dog ear cleaning stuff at the pet store its pretty cheap and much better than peroxide which can really irritate the ear). Theres a chance that just cleaning it will make your pup feel better. Don't worry if she yelps when you are cleaning it...its something cold and wet in her ear and most dogs hate it.
If the ear is really red, you need to take her to the vet.
Also and this sounds weird...smell the inside of her ear. If it smells bad she has an ear infection that is starting to get really bad and probably needs to go to the vet sooner than later
Good luck

I would take a damp cotton ball and remove any debris that is in the canal.
Dry ear with cotton once finished with cleaning.
Once all the crud is taken out of the canal the dog should feel some relief.
Since an ear infection is likely the cause you need to see a vet for treatment.
If the dog is scratching at the ear and causing more trauma to the ear an e-collar can be used.

He more than likely has ear mites. You can take a Cotton pad with some saline solution and try to wipe out the ear, the best you can. But you will still need to buy some ear mite medicine and place drops in the ear canal, massaging it into the passage to kill the mites. It may have gone as far as causing an infection and for that you will need a cream that is put down the ear canal and massaged into the ear. That needs to come from a vet. Only a vet, however, can tell you for sure what is happening with your dogs ears.

Is your dog a long eared dog? If so, he's very susceptible to yeast infections within the ear canal. This produces an overabundance of ear wax which is very irritable to a pup. You can easily see if this is what is going on with him, because the flesh under his ear flap will be pink and inflamed and you'll most probably notice a black wax-like substance protruding from the ear canal.
Take that sweetie to the vet. They'll take good care of him. Good luck! :)

It's most likely an ear infection. It doesn't matter if you get paid on Wednesday. He needs to go to the vet now.

He may just need his ears cleaned. Try soaking a cotton ball with peroxide with water and cleaning inside his ear.
