There is this one most plausible theory I've ever read about this... Biologists/archaeologists had performed carbon dating and found it's a bit over 500yrs old - when Leonardo Da Vinci was around. The ink used to form the image suggests that it's was photographed using an old form of photography...At the time the shroud was dated, Leonardo was outsourced to do paintings for the church which presumably contained the shroud...it's was said that documents were found describing how a priest had ventured into one of the tombs in the church and found it lying there...Basically, the archaeologists are suggesting that it was Leonardo himself who took a photograph of his face, which was inked onto the cloth and left in one of the tombs where the priests would find it and rever it as being the face of Jesus.
Personally, I do not believe that it was a shroud from Jesus because the man never existed...The story of Jesus is an adaptation of the old Ancient Egyption religion, where they worshiped the sun/light/good and moon/night/evil - Jesus being the son of the sun...and the 12 Apostles representing the 12 constellations - basically the Bible is an ancient astrological navigation guide.
I'd suggest you watch 'Zeitgeist The Movie'.

First there are reports of a similar shroud disappearing from Constantinople in the 4th crusade- only that is refeered to as the napkin of eddesa and being a lot smaller.
So it is probably not the shroud of Turin, next radio carbon tests date it to about the 12th century some say this is a patch.
The image has be recreated by using wrapping a heated statue with a cloth both available technologies. another attempt used a coat of ferric oxide and gelatin dye on a wet cloth wrapped around a statue and a third involved a sheet of glass with an image painted on it and sitting out in the sun. I would like people to state other possibilities.
We would need a more in depth sample of the section of the shroud with the image to determine it's age and any unusual caricaturists to be 100% sure it is not a medival painting, the vatican dose not want to provide this sample out of fear it would harm the shroud. Until this is given it looks like it is probably mideval and it can be reproduced easily.

Controversy has raged for centuries over its authenticity. Carbon 14 dating had been done in the mid-eighties by three labs which proved that the cloth was of medieval age and not old enough. Then in 2005 re-carbon 14 dating was done and proclaimed the cloth old enough to be authentic.
Conflicting scientific test results!!!!
I think people will believe what they want to believe no matter what evidence is introduced.
Below is a link to the shroud story but I wonder how unbiased this site is.

I don't know. You know what makes me wonder, though? Its a photographic negative. Photography was not invented in the 14th century (or whenever the carbon daters say it dates to); no one had ever seen a photographic negative back then, to copy when they "painted" the shroud. Just makes me wonder....

It does exist, but has long since been proven to be fake. Carbon dating showed it to be from about the 14th century.

I happen to not believe it was on Jesus because the Bible account states that the napkin that was wrapped on His head was found in the tomb

Of course...it's real isn't it?
That does not mean that is actually is the burial cloth of Jesus though. In fact, I don't think it is, based on evidence in the Bible concerning Jesus' resurrection.

No. My belief and faith rests in Jesus Christ, not in anything outside of Him.
Do I think it is real?
Yes, but it is NOT the one Christ had.
