Please help, if you can. I want to make sugar coated pecans but I can't crack them so that they come out whole.

I was lucky to get a few grocery bags filled with fresh pecans years ago when I lived in Louisiana. So I bought one of the "fancy" heavy duty nut crackers and had my nut picks to help. Even with the machine that all my Cajun friends said would work the best, very, very few of the pecans came out without splitting. But with patience, only a few crumbled after I got the gist of it. Family enjoyed receiving coffee cans filled with pecans that Christmas!

If shape matters that much to you, I suggest you buy some pecan halves...some of them will be broken in the package also.

Very carefully. It's a near impossible task unfortunately. I'd just but the ones already shelled. They're expensive but worth it. Good luck!
