My friend adopted a cat from a local animal shelter and was told at the time he adopted her that she was spayed.

This morning, she gave birth to eight kittens.

Oh no!! Never heard of anything like that, lol.
Either the shelter was lied to, or they just didn't know. Usually they offer to pay half to help spay the cat, but I have never heard of that.
Call them in the morning and let them know what happened... that is probably part of the contract your friend has with the shelter, anyway.

That is unfortunate.

I wouldn't be thinking about filing a complaint, I would think about how to find suitable homes. DO NOT encourage your friend to give them back to the shelter-they will most likely get euthanized.

Instead, use this link:http://search.petfinder.com/awo/index.cgi?action=state
to find a good rescue group. Make sure to do research though, because you want to find the best place for them.
Is she cannot handle them, a group will gladly take them. Please, don't let them go back to a shelter and be euthanized.

Call the shetler and ask for copies of their records on the cat--that you were told she was spayed and she just gave birth. Ask to speak to the manager also, and get the phone number of the vet who supposedly did the spaying.

wow i would be so mad if that happened! I would call the vet and complain about it. Also when you adopt and animal most vets are supose to give you their vet records. I would call the vet and request their vet records and proof of the cat being spayed.

let them know they screwed up but unless it is a 'no kill' shelter, you would be trying to get some common sense and good values where they don't exist. Don't waste your time. look after your new cats.
