No, you can actually wear just the top three ribbons.
In bootcamp, normally recruits only earn two medals: National Defense Medal and Global War on Terrorism Medal. If you have three or fewer ribbons, you have to wear them all.

1. If you earned the Medal or Ribbon , you will wear it on the Class A or Dress uniform
2. All you will earn in Boot Camp or Basic Training
will be your rifle, pistol qualification badge and the National Defense Ribbon. If you are prior service, you will wear any awards that you
earned in the past!

You earn the Army Service Ribbon out of basic for the Army. The wearing of ribbons and medals is optional but highly recommended. If you've earned it you might as well though.

Everyone earns the National Defense Medal out of boot camp.
With dress uniforms you have to wear all medals and/or ribbons.
With working uniforms in the Navy you only have to wear your top three ribbons. I do not know if this is the case for the other services.

Probably not an ARCOM, but more likely an Army Achievement Medal for a 300+ APFT or a 40/40 Expert rating. You will also get the National Defense Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal, and the Army Service Medal. Ribbons are medals.

Wow...these answers are all over the place. Todd J was right about ACU and ribbon wear. In the Army, everyone receives the Army Service, National Defense, and Global War on Terrorism out of basic.

No you do not however it is preferred and i don't see why you wouldn't. I am in the coast guard and i have come across enlisted and officers who have been in forever and just haven't updated their ribbon bars but when you just start its all about how many ribbons and pins you can put on your uniform. and yes you can get ribbons in boot camp: national defense which is also a medal, marksmanship on the pistol and depending on which branch of the military maybe rifle, and honor student. are you joining a branch?

I don't know a thing about navy but in the army you have to wear all ribbons and awards, skill badges earned when in class a uniform. Your duty uniform - ACU's now, BDU's still in service for awhile yet - you will only wear skill badges but is optional unless your unit requires it which they sometimes do.

If you are awarded a badge or ribbon and are wearing a uniform on which they should be displayed, such as class As (or whatever they're called now), you're supposed to wear all of them.
The only award given in basic that I'm aware of (as far as badge/ribbon) is marksmanship.
