Cameras are very personal, like golf clubs and underwear. You buy what you like.

I've always liked Canon. They're built well, the image quality is great, and they have great service.

Nikon fans swear by Nikon products.

Boxers or briefs?

In my house I have 3 Nikon DSLR's and 5 Nikon 35mm SLR's. They've never failed me.

BUT, it's too simple to put a "brand" label on what's best, because each maker has professional level and amateur level equipment. Canon & Nikon have magnesium bodied professional DSLR's but also make all-plastic economy digitals, as well.

As for recommendations about durability and satisfaction, scan these results. Choose different types of digital cameras and you'll see different rankings.

I own a Sony and a Fuji and love them both. Never had a problem with either. No doubt Canon makes a good quality camera also.

I've been using Minolta cameras for 36 years - but they are film cameras and unlikely of any interest to you.

I have a Sony. I love it. I had a Poloroid and it was too big and bulky. The Sony is smal and very easy to work. And the pix are great.
