Currently living here (14 months).
Puerto Rico has the advantage that you can get here from the USA without needing a passport.
It's a very popular destination either for a weekend, a week or pre or post cruise.
San Juan is the main city on the north of the island and has a range of places to stay from budget B&B's, hotels to high end hotels.
Old San Juan is full of history and you can easily spend a day or more wandering around
El Yunque rainforest is the only rainforest in the US Forestry service and is a definite must *45min drive from San Juan)
Other places worth looking at are Vieques and Culebra islands (off the east coast) and over on the west Rincon and Cabo Roja (west side is more layed back)
Central mountain areas are also spectacular.

Hope this helps

Puerto Rico's extraordinarily small, so which you will stay in a San Juan motel and have quite complication-free accessibility to a sturdy ingredient of the island (provided you have a condo vehicle). San Juan's additionally extraordinarily extreme-high quality in that something you go with/choose is interior of strolling distance. A head's up: quite some the present shops are particularly kitschy. do no longer forget that while you're making plans on going to Puerto Rico close to to the vacations, fairly while you're staying in San Juan, it may get ridiculously full of vacationers.

There's just too much to see and do. I visit often, and when I get back to RI, I need a vacation from my vacation. I'm exhausted. Is definitively worth it. The most fun you can have for you buck. And getting there is relatively easy from anywhere. Is the hub for all the caribbean islands, and most of the cruise ships in the area. Old San Juan, and other sites there were ranked in the famous book "1000 places to see before you die", very highly. If you're into high end dining, I recomend the Hato Rey area. You can even take the train there from Santurce and back. Next time I go there I want to visit the "Arecibo Observatory", run by one of the Ivy leage Universities in the sate, i think.

Well, 2 years ago I took a trip to PR .... and I stayed. I love it here. There are MANY low budget things here, including food and shopping. Also there are a TON of high end, elegant things. It all depends on what you like and what your budget is. I have been to every state in the US and I can honestly say that this is more diverse with just about something for everyone. Its really nice here... you are sure to enjoy it.

Puerto Rico is a very beautiful rich in culture and history. You can visit the rain forrest in yunque, go to old san juan; its beautiful. in the country side, where my family is from, you will hear the little tree frogs (they're called coquis, pronounced co-key) chirping at night.
what to do in puerto rico; take a nature hike, go sight seeing, eat and dance.
