Can I use vodka for make IRISH COFFEE, or just whiskey ?

I know that vodka is healthier than dark beverages. But Irish Coffee contains whiskey in all cases or we can modify ?

A real Irish coffee is whisky but this recipe you can use Vodka

1 1/2 oz Bailey's® Irish cream
1 1/2 oz vanilla vodka
4 oz coffee
1/2 - 1 oz whipped cream



Pour into a coffee mug 4 oz. of coffee. Add 1 1/2 oz. each of Bailey's Irish Cream and Absolut Vanilla Vodka. Stir lightly and top, if desired, whipped cream.

If you're planning to make a traditional Irish coffee, then you HAVE to use Irish whiskey because of the traditional recipe. My friend did it with vodka, but it wasn't that good as it is with whiskey.... It's not only about taste, it's about the smell too,and vodka is much more stronger...

If you use vodka, it will no longer be Irish Coffee, it'll just be vodka and coffee. The recipe for Irish coffee calls for Irish whiskey (specifically) and Bailey's. You CAN substitute, but it will not be Irish Coffee anymore.

BUT, here's a recipe that you can use, using vodka to make your coffee:

1oz. Vanilla Vodka (I prefer Stoli, but Smirnoff works if you're on a budget)
1oz. Kahlua (Try one of the exotic flavors for a different taste, especially if you like your coffee black)
Optional - 1 oz. Baileys (If you only have regular Kahlua, or want it a little sweeter, try the Caramel, I wouldn't suggest the mint, unless you use plain unflavored vodka).

If it's Irish Coffee then it must be Irish whiskey otherwise it's something else. Create your own coffee and try whatever liquor you want until you find something you like. As far vodka being healthier than any other liquor? The power of advertising!

I use metaxa 7* and 12 year old black label johnny walker scotch.I prefer my vodka for a liquid breakfast,in the bloody mary's.I think you can use whatever you like,in the case of vodka you might have to up the sugar content,IE instead of 2 use 3 tea spoons.anything you make would be a floater coffee with alcohol,if it is not called an irish coffee as such.A good trick to make the cream float,even with no sugar at all,is whip the cream before putting it in the glass and just use 2 spoons to load it in.

seriously in agreement with the guy who stated vodka being healthier as marketing! ALL booze is clear after being distelled, whiskey's, some tequilas and other "dark" spirits get their color from the wood barrels they are matured in. So, two points, 1 do not buy land from the guy who told you vodka was more healthy; 2 irish coffee can not be made with vodka

insert one spoon,
add whiskey to your taste,
add boiled water,
spoon on whipped cream.

Yummee.

Irish coffee calls for a good irish whiskey, like Bushmills or Jameson.
