He gets calls from Traralgon to Cranbourne to Welshpool to Sale in Victoria and drives to collect the birds. He keeps them until they are well enough to be set free in the wild. It costs a lot of money for petrol and to feed them and he needs help.

Contact the government agency that deals with conservation of native species.

Is your friend a licensed wildlife rehabilitator? If not, chances are he will not be able to get a grant. If he is not a licensed rehabber, tell him to contact a licensed rehabber in the area for advice on getting his own license, then he may be able to find ways to get grants either through the government, or through the International Wildlife Rehabilitators Association.

Your friend can look here for local rehabbers: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm

Im not sure how he would be able to get a government grant. Try looking for other orginasions in melbourne and see how they do it. I know groups such as th W.I.R.E.S thoughout vic and nsw are funded by fundraising so....with that said im really not sure if the government supports people like your friend. (it might be different now with RUDD lol = } )

he can try maybe putting up some fliers at an audubon place telling who he is (with a myspace link provided for more info and pictures of saved birds and success stories) -- as well as info how to contact him with an injured bird -- and --- some solicitations for donations.
