At least we get to elect our legislatures.

These committees were either self-appointed or selected by bishops or princes.

1. Because the Catholic Church is protected from error by the Holy Spirit.

2. We know this is true because they tell us so.

3. And they can't be wrong about [2], because they never make errors (see [1]).

The "committee" was a church council, and it accepted the most of the recommendations of Bishop Eusibius, who eliminated the books of other of Xtian sects like the Gnostics, as well as some widely used books of the time he didn't choose to include. The Gospel of John and the Apocalpse (unveiling) were borderline gnostic, but they probably too good to leave out....

Because the Catholic Church, which canonized the New Testament, was founded by Christ and is protected from error by the Holy Spirit. Legislatures are not protected from error by the Holy Spirit

Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The heretical protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. Only the Catholic Church existed in the tenth century, in the fifth century, and in the first century, faithfully teaching the doctrines given by Christ to the apostles, omitting nothing. The list of popes can be traced back to Peter himself, the first pope. Here is a list:

Jesus’ Church is called catholic ("universal" in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matt. 28:19–20). For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).

I can only speak for myself. I prayed to the God of the Bible, persistently and to the best of my ability, and He has answered me and blessed me unmistakably. Many of the spiritual gifts He has given me I wouldn't have known enough to ask for.

So, in answer to your question, I trust that committee because I saw the results first, and firsthand.
