My kitten has been wearing Elizabethan collar for 6 days now to stop her pulling her stitches out.. We will remove it in 4 days when her stitches are out. The problem she has developed little sores on her neck and can't stop scratching them. The collar is not tight. What would you recommend to use to help her feel more comfortable? Is there any alternative to the collar? Thanks

Floopy, thanks, I did attach E-collar to a soft cat collar when I was putting it on, but E-collar's hard loops hurt kitten's neck.

Try attaching the E-collar to a cat collar, that way it's not directly chafing her neck.

Edit: Aw, poor kitty. Try padding it with cloth or gauze.

Was she automatically sent home with the collar or did you notice her trying to remove the stitches? We never send home E collars with our surgeries--the pain medication usually relieves any discomfort and the cat or dog rarely bothers the sutures. Have you tried taking the collar off to see if she will leave them alone?

try putting some medical gauze on the part of the collar that goes a round her neck or or you can buy that foam stuff at the drug store ya just tape it to the collar i had to do that to my 1 cat we found out she was allergic to the plastic in the collar

When my cat had to wear an e-collar in January, I kept it loose but tied it to a tighter, regular cat collar. He couldn't get it off, but it was loose enough that he could breathe. (My cat has asthma, so that was a concern.) Maybe that would work?

Just four more days of misery and you won't have to worry about it anymore!

Bless her heart. I recommend placing soft cloth, like t-shirt material, or soft gauze over it to pad the areas. Also make sure that the sores are not open and bleeding, just a little neosporine on the sores should help them.
