Do I need to make a certain amount in order to file? I didn't work much and I would probably only get 20 bucks back. Any advice?

I only posted this because I don't want to spend time filing if I don't need to.

If you want your money back, you need to file.

You need to make at least $3400 before you are required to file.

That depends upon your filing status, the source of the income and your dependency status. If you are a single taxpayer and not the dependent of another taxpayer, the magic number for 2007 is $8,750 in wages from a job. If you could be claimed as a depedent it drops to $5,350. And if your income is from self-employment, it drops all the way to $400.

Even if you earned less than that, if any income tax was withheld you'll have to file to have that refunded.

You are allowed to file no matter how little you made. However, for $20, it may not be worth the effort to file unless you are required. Being required usually starts at several thousand dollars, but at only a few hundred for persons who can be claimed as someone else's dependent.

There's no minimum to file, as long as you had ANY income. If you had $20 withheld, you can file and get it back if you made under $5350 if you are a dependent, or $8750 if you aren't.

Complete a 1040ez form, it will take you about 15 minutes and a postage stamp. You will probably get all of your money back.
