They've been brainwashed to believe they would - and some would, since their religion is a substitute daddy and without him watching they'd be naughty. Sad.

The issue is not the Bible as a moral guide. The issue is the moral authority behind our standards of behavior.
Most people don't kill, lie and steal because of the fear of loss of relationships and reputation or because of the fear of feeling bad. It all boils down to feelings and what moral authority do feelings have over us? What is conscience then except a set of feelings? Guided by feelings, but what moral obligation do we owe to a feeling? None unless we believe that a higher moral authority, i.e. God, is behind the feelings.
Without a belief in God, we might still feel that some things are socially unacceptable and some things are but there would be no rational "we ought to obey" attached to those feelings.

Some people do. There's lots of killing, lieing, and
stealing out there as I read about it in the news every
single day. Yet, some people have good morals
without being a Christian and that's great. Those
people don't have to be guided by the Bible.

The Bible is a moral guide. But it's not always followed now. Which goes to show that people are going to do what they want anyway. The Bible drives home the message,"Treat others the way you want to be treated." No one wants to be killed, raped, in slaved, disrespected, oppressed, the list goes on. You have to realize, to do these things, you're sewing seeds of destruction to yourself. What will you say then when your deeds come back to destroy you?
I don't commit cold blooded murder because I don't want to be murdered in cold blood. Obviously, some of us have a lot more to lose than you.
Feel me?
P.S.
The Bible doesn't say you can't commit murder, etc., it says,"you SHALL not commit..."
"Can" and "shall" are two different things. Look them up and see for yourself; don't just take my word for it. You'll realize that your question is... well... dumb. LOL!
Merry Christmas!

Actually the bible is a moral guide to help a person not harbor the emotions that cause one to commit murder, or steal, commit adultery.
In that sense it is a moral guide; and yes, if it were not for GOD'S word, I am 100% certain that I would be a very bitter, angry, greedy, and just down right mean little wench!

The Bible is a moral guide. If read in proper context, you will understand that all life is connected and that we need each other to survive. Also God uses people to do his work in this realm. Which makes it important to "treat each other the way we would like to be treated." Good luck friend.

This question shows a misconception. The Bible is written to people who already have the moral code that goes with, is defined by, existence in this world. Nobody needs to be told that violence, theft, lies and laziness are wrong. Jesus came to tell us that we can make a fresh start _if_ we trust him, because his death clears the bad consciences we have from living here. We must admit we often break our own moral code, we must accept that we are unable to keep it. Through gratitude to Jesus for his sacrifice made on our behalf, we can become better people. Much better.

I'm a Christian and even I have to drink to this one.
That inner sense of right and wrong that leads you to ask this question was given to you by God, atheist. And yes, without it you would kill, lie, steal, and worse. Thank God he gave you a conscience whether you want it or not, ehy?

since your question is hypothetical ,than the answers also is hypothetical, if a fire was not hot people would do allot of things with it, they might dance in fire and make a crown about there head with it , but the fact is fire is hot and consumes, so the question what if does not apply to reality does it.?
the bible is real and God is real and the Judgments of God are real, so ask a real question.
