MOST states that have included a "Castle Doctrine" into their firearms laws will allow a person who can legally own the firearm to carry it, loaded and concealed, in their vehicle under most circumstances. Your mileage may vary. Here in MO, you do not need a CCW permit to carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle. Just don't try carrying it outside the vehicle without a permit.

As not all state laws are the same, You should check your state's statutes to be sure. "packing.org" is a good source of information.

Garfield,
Not all states have gun laws like Massachusetts. Here in Mississippi, any person not legally barred from firearms ownership may have a loaded handgun in their car at any time. A person's automobile is considered to be an extension of their home and a person has a right to have firearms in their homes.

Fisher,

Lots of states permit their citizens tho have firearms in their cars without the necessity of a permit. Check out www.packing.org to see gun laws state by state.

Any state that will issue you a concealed carry, will permit said permit holder to carry the weapon loaded. would defeat the whole purpose of concealed carry, if you ever had to use the weapon, if you had to load it first.
some states, will honor permits from other states

Many state allow this, because many states consider your vehicle an extension of your house.

If you don't have a permit you cant have a gun. Do you mean permit to have a gun in the car? As long as your in control of the weapon and have a license to carry your fine. You can not have it in the glove box with passengers in the car or anything like that. That's how it is in MA.
