Usually crazy precedes religion as I have noticed.

*sigh* Post-partum psychosis made Andrea Yates crazy. Just because she happened to be religious doesn't mean all of her problems stem from it. Atheists suffer post-partum psychosis too. If God or Satan hasn't told her to kill her kids, maybe the toaster would have. The poor woman was crazy. Doctors even warned her and her husband about the possibility and warned against her having another child. She had a clear medical problem.

1. Be more specific with religion. My Buddhist/Taoist beliefs do not make me crazy.
2. Andrea Yates has a chemical imbalance in her brain that interferes with her sense of right and wrong. Properly diagnosed and medicated, her kids would be alive today.

And what would you have to say of Mother Theresa, Dr. Billy Graham, and other Godly men and women?
I could use the examples of Adolf Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein to prove insanity on a broad spectrum. What's your point?

Who is Andrea Yates?
No, religion doesn't make you crazy, but sometimes people that are already crazy claim to be religious.

When you realise that 90% of the US general population considers themselves one religion or another, it is reasonable to conclude that some of those people will be mentally ill.
If religion makes you crazy, why don't all Christian mothers drown their children?

Yeah we are really weird. We are children of GOD. We are in the world but we are not of the world. We walk through life as strangers. The world does not know us because we no longer belong to the world. So if you think religion make us crazy you should see what a relationship with Christ Jesus does to us.
So you see.. even though our commandments tell us to not murder and Jesus tells us to not resist evil and pray for those who hate and use us, the world still finds a way to call GOD evil and evil good.

I think doctors established that it was postpartum depression/psychosis that made her crazy, not religion.
That case was also a wonderful example of the failure of people to use common sense. The doctor had left clear instructions to her family that she was NOT to be left alone with her kids, yet her husband left her alone with them anyway. Couldn't hire a sitter? Couldn't send the kids to stay with grandma?
I'm sorry, I've worked with mentally ill people, and the kindest thing to do is to put them in a place where they WON'T do soemthing they will regret for the rest of their lives.
