My family is re-doing our basement, and we kind of wanted it to have a hollister feel. If you have ever been inside of a hollister clothing store you know what I am refering to, but if you have not it's kind of has a beach vibe to it, but it's not with those bright obnoxious colors. To be honest it's pretty dark. It's a very cozy atmosphere. Any advice on how I could make my basement like this?

i would go for a kind of washed out turquois grey for the walls. your accent wall should be a washed out dark red with a kinda strie style. if you dont know how to do strie there will be a link below. for furniture if you use wood makes sure it is a light color staying away from oak or cherry. glass side tables would be good but not as a coffee table. sofa colors to consider are dark ehtereal colrs likefaded browns. i wouldnt use the primary colors any more than just the walls because usingprimary colors in too many places will the make the room seem childish instead of the kind of dark hollister look

For a beach feel:
1] 'ocean' [ light teal or turquoise ] walls, with a few whitecaps if you are artistic; too dark will feel like a dungeon
2] 'sand' [ golden beige ] carpet
3] 'palm tree' lamps [ google it ]
4] adirondack chairs/chaises, with cushions in color or print of your choice
5] 'beach towel' curtains, or fishnet curtains
6] 'beach' artwork - posters, etc from famous beaches [ travel posters ] or movies located at beaches
7] how about some old coolers [ the metal ones ] for end table and side tables?
8] use large shells for ornaments or even a planter

Give it the "washed" look when you paint it...which gives it that warmed, welcome to the beach look. You can find the technique at Lowe's or Sherwin-Williams. You can also purchase used wooden shutters at thrift stores or antique stores to hang on the wall - or just purchase new ones and give them a distressed look when you paint them. These can be used as art or you can make end tables or cocktail tables out of them. Use "jute" or "sisal" for your rugs and stay with the muted earthtones for colors adding some "faded" denims or blues.
