From Mexican perspective:
It makes much more sense to be allies then enemies to their Giant neighbor to the north. Just look at Cuba as the alternative.
From US perspective:
It makes sense to be friendly with all neighbors as those are the first countries enemies try and partner with. Just look at Cuba and the USSR or look at how Germany tried to get Mexico to ally with the Axis in WW1, the famous Zimmerman Letters. Also look at how China is nervous about US influence in Taiwan and South Korea for same reasons.
It's all just politics really. The basis of the alliance is not based on some inate love for our "mexicano" or "anglos" neighbors. Alliance change over time with politics.

We are AMERICANS, not Amerikans. We are "allies", they aren't enemies, that would be the alternative. Mexico does not have a large military force like we do, so there isn't much interaction with that respect. They are referred to as MEXICANS not Mexicanos.

I just wish you Latinos would stop calling us all "Anglos". Not all whites are of British descent, and a lot of us didn't speak English as our first language either.
