I visited my boyfriends church recently and when offering time came around, the pastor said you will be blessed if you tithe and you will be cursed if you dont? And i notice he gives more than he can afford he is living pay check to pay check, he gets mad at his mother for not paying tithes. I want to give him some advice but I dont know how to say it without sounding rude!

Tithing is an old covenant commandment, like sacrifices, and so much more in that law that was located in the old covenant which ENDED. Paul in his writings brings out that if you believe you have to keep even one point of the old covenant law, such as circumcision (his example) then a person was obligated to keep all of the law, and that they had also fallen from grace.

If this minister teaches tithing, he is essentially teaching a false gospel, adding to it the works of the law.

I can't possibly emphasize this enough. This minister has absolutely no right to invoke tithing any more than he has the right to invoke sacrifices, or circumcision, etc.

In any event, tithes were never assessed on wages. A tithe was the tenth of the increase of produce and livestock only. Wage earners never paid tithes.

This "pastor" has no right to declare that those who tithe to him will be blessed, and those who do not will be cursed.

These are the tactics of a wolf.

Unfortunately, all too many people fall for this sort of thing, and it is VERY difficult to pull them away from wolves, due to the fear and phobia they induce in their followers.

You could ask him to ask this "pastor" if there has ever been anyone who tithed who was not blessed, and anyone who tithed who ended up "cursed".

He will waffle. He cannot prove his claim. Those who claim to make religious claims that cannot be proven one way or the other is a sign they are not from God. God does not work like this.

I would like to be of more help, but your boyfriend would have to be willing to communicate with me. Let him know I am available, and it would be in his best interest to talk to someone knowledgeable in religion. Remind him there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors, and only a fool answers a matter before he hears it. These statements are in Scripture.

Almost forgot. Only Israel was commanded to tithe. No one else. Christians were never a party to that old covenant, and tithing is not a part of the new.

Well you can tell him that tithing is not scriptural and when tithing was done it never included money.

Abraham never tithed on his own personal property or livestock.

Jacob wouldn’t tithe until God blessed him first.

Only Levite priests could collect tithes, and there are no Levite priests today.

Only food products from the land were tithable.

Money was never a titheable commodity.

Christian converts were never asked to tithe anything to the Church.

Tithing in the Church first appears centuries after completion of the Bible.

These examples were taken from bibletruths.com

God blesses those who give, but that doesn't mean he curses those who don't give. The tithe is an Old Testament law for the Jews.. Under the new covenant we are to give generously. No set amount. Ask him to show you what the New Testament says about the tithe. :)

When the 12 tribes of Israel were established only one tribe was given the priestly duties. So that they could dedicate all their time, the other 11 tribes tithed, giving them 110%, for doing God's work. That was then and this is now. New Testiment theology does not require such to worship God. Now we worship in spirit and in truth. Those who insist on tithing pick and choose out of the Bible what is best for them.

I was about to protest but then i went back to Malachi chapter 3, i have pasted it for you.

"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'
"In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. 12 "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty.

The bible makes it clear that The Curse applies to those who Rob God in their Tithes and Offerings. From my understanding perhaps people who hold back money meant for God it is not clear if it means those who are not tithing. however tithing is something every christain should do.
my dear giving tithe comes with blessings from God i am not one to judge but i take the word of God as is , so i would advice you to pray to God to forgive you if you have known that you were supposed to give tithe and offering to God and did not and start to do it . We do not fully understand God and his ways we simply obey he knows, he understands why we need to do these things.his ways are not ours.cheers

Tithing is between you and God. Malachi 3:8 enforces tithing. Jesus also mentioned tithe in the New Testament .

Titheing is of GOD

but consider this

if you have no money what do you tithe ?

one can tithe by ones self
going , helping , time , etc etc

nothing wrong with titheing and one should
and one can NEVER out give God

but one is not to give expecting something in return
God knows what we have need of and supplies that Need !!

He is to Give what is in his heart and what God leads him to do.............you will only cause a rift if you enterven, and you may even find yourself .........alone !!!

and one isnt cursed if they dont give...what if they have nothing or ability to give ( children for example, are they cursed? ) NO
But it is written this way
" If a man knows to do right and does it not to him it is sin "
and " anything without Faith is sin "

If one knows titheing is of GOD then they are responsiable to do so............for those who have no knowledge . how can they be expected to do what they dont know ?

You know , so why arn't you ?

talk to him about it in Love , not he should or shouldnt
he will gain in the end as it says and is written this way
" For God is not mocked for whatsoever a man soweth , that shall he also reap : if he sows to the flesh then of the flesh , he shall reap corruption , but if he sows to the spirit , then of the spirit , he shall reap life everlasting "

One Reaps what they sow
IF THEY SOW ALOT
THEY WILL REAP ALOT
IF THEY SOW SPARINGLY
THEY WILL REAP SPARINGLY

and thats to the Flesh or the Spirit !!!!
WE TRUELY REAP what WE SOW
even in Tithes

I don't know about the cursing part, but I do know that God is pleased when you give from your heart what you can. I remember a verse in the bible where rich people were giving all kinds of gold and silver at the offering table and a poor woman gave her only coin she had. Who was God pleased with and blessing, why the woman who had given all she had and not what extra she could afford. The only advise I can give is to give to God with gladness from your heart and see it as a way to praise Him.....

Nope.
Never went to church, never paid a tithe, never been cursed.
I will, however, go to jail if I don't pay taxes.
Now there is a curse!

You made some errors on your protection. The tithes of previously have been switched over into silver and then introduced to the temple while the gap became into to super. Duet 14:24-25The Levites gathered this money because of the fact they have been servants of God purely because of the fact the church is meant to have servants of God right this moment, finding on the way you sense approximately church homes. The church has replace into the temple of right this moment the place those monks(instructors of the regulation) now popular as pastors, elders ect.. are to minister to the folk. however the church has long gone too far and has in fact replace into corrupt. The issues they as quickly as adversarial fiercely they now settle for liberally. They even make assertion of such foolishness like, "we at the instant are not below regulation." comprehend that the regulation did no longer disappear nor replace. somewhat the sacrifice rules tranferred to be below one sacrifice continuously to end them below a suitable Lamb. it is Christ who's our sacrifice. we are nonetheless below sin regulation otherwise Christ does no longer have informed the wealthy guy to obey the commandments and Paul does no longer have made this quote. Romans 2:13 "For it is no longer people who pay attention the regulation who're righteous in God's sight, whether it is people who obey the regulation who would be declared righteous. " The tithe is a regulation of God and could be saved whether you do no longer attend church, set aside your 10th for makes use of that ought to income God and furhter his reason somewhat than our very own.
