As of yesterday when I went to the electronics superstore, I'd have to say LCD beats plasma hands down and humiliates projection. And I'd say Samsung is the best of the LCDs right now. Better than Sony.

They had a Samsung 46" LCD with blu-ray movie playing. It was absolutely the clearest TV picture I've ever seen.

At times I had the eery feeling I was in the room with them or looking through a window rather than at a TV.

By the way, I have a Sony HD 34" widescreen picture tube tv that's 3 years old. It's still an awesome TV. At the time, it beat any other technology hands down in terms of quality and price. I'm actually kind of hoping it dies so I have an excuse to buy a Samsung LCD. However if I wait for that, it'll probably be another 10 years at least.

LCD really is the best. Great job buying a Sony they are the best out there. As for lifespan its about 15 years right now but research is saying they will last even longer. That's another reason to buy LCD. Plasmas loose there brightness with age. Sony is the best and most reliable but also the most expensive.
