This is one of the few REAL questions I've run across. You should have also added why do all modern day churches refuse to admit their groups past transgressions and hypocritical viewpoints while they push faith based laws in this day and age.

The John Jay report - probably the only comprehensive report on the pedophilia scandal in the Catholic Church - suggested comparable rates TO THE RATE OF ABUSE BY MEN IN GENERAL. Bear in mind, in the population at large, men are four to ten times more likely to perpetrate child sexual abuse than women. As such, we should expect the rate among an all-male group to be similar to the rate among MEN, not among the population in general. I should note that the report cannot adequately address the question because it examined legal proceedings - number of priests accused, number charged, number taken to trial, number convicted. I'd think it would be the same among male coaches as well.

What you have to learn is that the Roman royalty and aristocrats are the persons who wrote the NT story and played all the part of persons mention in it. The Roman empire lived and fed on slavery. There was about 70 percent of all person captured in any region made into slaves. The same people running the empire invented Jesus and the catolic church, and they continued because it meant money to them and their families and still does. It is one of the biggest frauds in the world and should be torn down.

As someone with a Catholic background I am not going to attempt to justify this. The Catholic Church has done some horrible things.

You should read the Constitution, Gar...
According the 13th Amendment, slavery is STILL legal in the US as punishment for a crime of which you have been duly convicted: that's how come "chain gangs" can be legal...
(That doesn't excuse the lunacy of the Church, of course, but perhaps puts it in perspective! You seem like a pretty sharp person, but you do persist in looking for common sense in the strangest places! LOL!)
Happy Festivus!

Roman Catholics have alot of money. Therefore, they can do as they wish. But the holy orders of the Catholic Church are nothing more than slavery. They work their whole life in exchange for nothing. They give up everything in exchange for nothing. They die broke and alone.

slavery was sTARTED AS SOMETHING TO GIVE PEOPLE FREEDOM FROM HAVEING TOthink about the bigger things in life like people of diffrent color which most people cant understand,., so it really is a lie,., becasue if people dont like slavery , talk about slavery , cant undertstad slavery on their own,., they appear to be lieng when they seem interested in somet5hing so if you havent seen the events that lead to this momnet from creation, you also know that nothing important has to do with you so that also leades people to belive they can make deseions based on their surroundings because to belive something you make up must mean that why it works is true and because all you do is hold imformation for other people, it also has to mena you belive it so when you die and neve rreturen to this eatrh that weill always be in your community be cause you dont know how to talk about your self,., and just like this the ory., if i was to own the earth and i dont like you staying here and you dont know me,., you would tell me i was crazy jsut because you think i am like you,., but every one who lives with me knows how ordinary people think so i have a truth,,., and a person,., who likes to talk,., and has to think becasue when interesting people talk,., the make history

They probably rationalized that since they were rescuing these women, they were doing good. Not to mention that it was probably profitable to the church.

Although one could point out that Jesus did not say or do anything about the centurion who had a slave in Luke 7:
1 When he had finished all his words to the people, he entered Capernaum.
2 A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die, and he was valuable to him.
3
When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save the life of his slave.
4
They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying, "He deserves to have you do this for him,
5
for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us."
6
And Jesus went with them, but when he was only a short distance from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof. 4
7
Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word and let my servant be healed.
8
For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."
9
When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him and, turning, said to the crowd following him, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."
10
When the messengers returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.
