you want to start by going on a steady 80% pace for about 20 minutes then find a hill and sprint up it at 100% for 10 seconds, preferable incline of hill at 6-8%. do that twice a week, and that will help your fast twitch muscles which increases your speed....good luck!

Get to the track twice a week and do 10x100s. Run the straights hard, fast, controlled, good form. Rest, recover, jog on the turns. Start w/half-mile warmup and end w/half-mile warmdown.

Don't kill yourself by practicing really hard before the season even starts. Practice and eat good food (carbs before running for energy, protein after for your muscles to recover), stretch.
