And yes there is a citizenship test now.
The new version of the US citizenship test will start
October 1st, 2008.
Everyone taking the test before October 1st, 2008, must take the current version of the test.

There is no American Citizenship test.
It is likely that you mean the United Statesian citizenship test. NOT the same thing. Remember that the US is only one of 37 American nations.
