I agree completely, I am 28wks pregnant, and my child will not be receiving the HepB shot at birth. It is not necessary for a child, besides I have had my own reaction when I was 13, I now have a muscle syndrome I am stuck with for life.
People do not research vaccines.
For instance according to the CDC[Center for Disease Control]
HepB is only "spread when blood from an infected person enters the body of a person who is not infected.[...] spread through having sex with an infected person without using a condom"
"Hepatitis B is not spread through food or water, sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, coughing, sneezing or by casual contact.".
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/faqb.htm#gen
A baby isn't going to be doing those things.
I have no idea why parents do not research these things. I guess its because most just know the government would never ever lie. xD
Ha, these new parents dont even realise they got 5-8 vaccines but now its about 23.
One last example[I guess I am ranting!]
Vaccinations rates are still extremely high in the US, YET the rates for Pertussis[Whooping Cough] have gone up dramatically in the last few years.
WHO website [world health organization] http://www.who.int/immunization_monitoring/en/globalsummary/timeseries/TSincidenceByCountry.cfm?country=United%20States%20of%20America
These parents should look at VAERS, but then again, they probably don't even know what it is.
[For them..
VAERS
The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System is a cooperative program for vaccine safety of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). VAERS is a post-marketing safety surveillance program, collecting information about adverse events (possible side effects) that occur after the administration of US licensed vaccines. ]
To those who said, People who are weary about vaccinations only look at Anti-Vax sites.
Those were all government sites.
And there are many more supporting articles, from the CDC, FDA, VAERS, etc.

Has nothing to do with gullibility, it has to do with common sense and keeping our children healthy. My children are vaccinated, and yes, they've gotten the flu shots (my daughter is high-risk, so we protect ourselves) and the chicken pox shot. (I have a friend who sadly lost a child due to chicken pox complications -- she now vaccinates her other child.
I'm grateful that my kids are safe from picking up certain illnesses, and at the same time, I'm glad to know that they cannot spread those illnesses to the ones who aren't vaccinated. It would be horrible if my child had the chicken pox and gave it to someone who wasn't immunized. My friend learned the difficult way that the chicken pox is not innocent for all.
The exemption forms are unfortunate. I don't like the fact that they are available, it's a shame.

Have you ever thought that maybe YOU are the one who is gullible? You and those other people have this notion that vaccines are all bad, horrible things, because you only choose to read the links that are against them. There are so many more links FOR vaccines, yet your little cult is so brainwashed into not believing anything else.
My kids are vaccinated. My husband and I are quite educated. There is nothing gullible about what we're doing, being that we choose to keep our children healthy. It's really sad that so many kids out there are not vaccinated, but as long as I know that my kids are safe from them, I'm okay.

I think vaccinations are a great thing! I want to do everything in my power to prevent my child from getting sick. I didn't know there was a law, but in some ways, it may be a good thing to have one.

I think it's a matter of being told, believing it and not doing the research.
Another poster mentioned the "threat" unvax'd kid pose to her Vacinated ones.....HOW? If the vaxes are so great, they are protectected.....right?
An educated person would definatly question the wisdom of injecting known toxins, viruses and aborted fetal cells into a child.

i think you and your parents are oblivious to the importance of vaccines.
according to the center of disease control there is no correlation between autism and vaccines. the rise of autism is due to the fact that we have more medical technology to diagnose it.
yes there is loop holes in the law but that doesn't mean it should be practised.
if everyone used the loop holes we would all be walking around with small pox, measles, etc.
God bless

They are doing it for the good of the country!
When I was a child, they hadn't released the immunizations yet, so I got mumps and am now half deaf because of it. It is not fun.
Learn the facts before you decide anything. What the papers say is just hearsay.

Either way - I'm proud that I'm educated and intelligent enough to vaccinate my daughter and not have to worry about potential harm to her from other children who are not vaccinated.
