Aw, don't be so cynical. It's about getting your money's worth. Televangelists provide a service, albeit difficult to measure. What benefit? Well, if you are gullible enough, a televangelist can make you feel better by contributing. How do you feel better? Because you have the sense that your money is going to a good cause. Sure, your brain tells you that Richard Pryor's character in "Car Wash," Daddy Rich, is a complete phony. But many people sincerely contribute money to organized religions and charities. Is there a measurable difference between your local denominational church and the 700 Club?
And Jesus isn't alone in his spiritual and needy condition. Save the Whales and Starving Children need money. Though the "hook" isn't spiritual, the benefit is some sort of inner satisfaction that you've helped something that needs help.
I don't send money to televangelists. But if someone else does, and they think they're getting some benefit from that, it's OK with me.
Interesting question. Thanks.

Assumption is made that you as a listener want the gospel story to continue being aired. Since the televangelist does not want to say "I" need your money to keep the show on the air he will say "Jesus needs your money". Of course the gospel will go worth even if the rocks have to cry out but the televangelist likes being a part of the work and needs your support. What one needs to do is either trust in whom you are sending the money or ask for a financial statement.

Haha... televangelists just THINK they need your money to buy twenty-five more cars and do a little more TV marketing. God doesn't need your money. If you choose to give (which I believe you should, but only to WORTHY causes) find a church that inspires you. One that stands out from the rest; one that truly CARES about its people... that is extremely rare these days. Tithe to help it grow and hopefully someday, drown out all of the fake churches in America... there's enough of those.

In the Bible in Micah, I believe - it talks about giving 10% of your income to support the church which does make perfect sense. Most of what you see on TV are prosperity people who say "give this much and God will give you that new car you've wanted". That isnt' what it's all about. People should give the 10% to their churches with a cheerful heart, but as far as giving large sums of money to evangelists or other people, I believe you have to be led by God to do so.

don't be fooled, Jesus doesn't need money, His hands carved the earth!
when Jesus said i send you out as sheep among the wolves... these are the wolves he was referring to.
the tithe is a tribute to the Lord... it is an offering of your labors being translated into currency which God's church and magistrate use by His will. God controls the flow of all money as it pertains to His will.

haha. good one. they don't need it, they want it. dumb televangelists(most of them)
the church needs money to operate its ministries. but, the first and foremost reason you give is in obedience to God. It shows you trust christ with your salvation as well as your finances.
although i know u didn't want that as answer, just to make fun of christians w/ your fellow non-christians.

Jesus doesn't need your money. He owns everything. The ministries do. They have to pay those broadcasting bills, and pay people who work in the ministry ... oh, and give to the poor.

you put it right
according to televangelists
JESUS has it ALL
Sure God expects you to give to those in need
and some are doing Gods will
by feeding the hungry , clothing the naked and etc..
but most TV , crowd is out to pay air time and
for themselves
even the Bible made mention of these very things saying
" they will make merchandise of you "
and
" they will call gain godliness "
One Needs to follow God and HIS WORD
and He will lead you to whom or where
you are needed most in your giving
and God says
" He loves a cheerful giver"
and
" when you give expect nothing in return"
