She gave birth to her babies about three weeks ago. She drinks water and hangs around outside as she used to do but doesn't eat enough. She's skinny that I can feel her backbone and ribs as I touch her. What is wrong with ther? I feed her cereal-like catfood. Should I try giving her canfood? Plz help.
By the way, when can the babies aparted from their mother?

I'm not an expert on cats. The mother's a stray and I'm just taking care of her.

It's best to wait until the kittens are at least 10 weeks (it's 10 weeks by law where I come from) and preferably 12 weeks to take them away from their mother.

Pregnant and nursing cats need a lot of nourishment. Make sure she doesn't have worms (and if she does, talk to your vet about how to deworm a cat who is nursing kittens) and otherwise feed her a good quality kitten food, as much as she wants, (this is a standard thing to do with pregnant and nursing cats) to make her gain weight, Remember to gradually introduce the new food by mixing it with her old food over a period of 3-4 days so that she doesn't get an upset stomach.

Also remember to deworm the kittens and you can start giving them kitten/baby food in about a week or so to help the mother keeping the kittens fed. They usually do well if you introduce them to wet food first and then gradually switch to dry food. Remember to read the instructions on the kitten/baby food carefully to make sure you are feeding them the correct food at the correct age. There is not much difference in the contents, but the size of the food is important. Tiny kittens shouldn't eat huge chunky food.

EDIT: I just re-read your question. At first I understood is as if the food she is given doesn't fatten her up, but is she not eating at all? If she's not, then you'll need to take her to a vet.

I would definately recommend that this cat be seen by a vet for a check up since she just gave birth to kittens. Also kittens should not leave there mother until 8 weeks of age.
Good Luck.

In my perception device this is unquestionably incorrect the cat is a sacred animal and the canine is a her protector. No i think of it would be extra helpful to consume the flesh of human somewhat than the cat or the canine. I additionally evaluate the Alligator to be sacred, i could no longer consume it, i'd probable get unwell if I discovered I had eaten it by making use of accident.

YEESH! If she's not eating, then the KITTENS will also be malnourished! They should all be taken to the vet ASAP.

Kittens are usually ready to leave their mother at 6-8 weeks; but if you don't get the mother eating quickly, they might not even live that long. Take them to the vet ASAP!

maybe you should try giving her other types of food, can food is ok, but if you can afford it try raw meat (cat food) however she may require medical attention and should consult your local vet. Kittens I believe should be slowly taken from mum when they are around 8wks and not the 6wks. you will need to show them how to drink and eat on there own before fostering them out

Seafood is not a normal type of food for cats and kittens, if you think about it you would not see a cat hunting in the wild and fishing in a lake for there food.

Take her to the vet RIGHT NOW!!!! Babies should stay with their mum till they are 8-10 weeks old. You do not sound as though you know much about cats or are particularly responsible. Don't have any more cats unless they are desexed. And get her to that vet!!!!!

She is in heat again. She can get pregnant again. The kittens will apart from her at 6 weeks old. You might have to bottle feed the kittens if she doesn't feed them.

Consult your vet, do it now. This can't go on without risking loosing her or the babies.
