I don't want to try it but am curious about it.
I see on food products all the time on the bottom of the food lable stating that 2000 cal. is based on the diet of 2000 cal.

Can people lose weight eating that amount?

absolutely, but it depends on your activity level and metabolism.. if you are an active person and exercise frequently, have a high metabolism, 2000 calories will not be enough to carry you through the day, but if you do not carry alot of muscle, live a sedentary lifestyle, and do not exercise, 2000 calories may actually cause you to gain weight.. when i am lifting weights in the fall and winter and trying to put weight on, 2000 calories is no where near what i need on a daily basis to maintain weight, if i ate 2000 calories a day, i would lose weight every week, however, my girlfriend eats about 2000 calories a day for normal weight maitanance, she is active and goes to the gym w me 4 days a week. if she was to sit on the couch all week long and eat the same foods, she would surely put on weight. hope this explains it well enough..

No, it's not possible not lose weight or gain weight if you eat 600 calories a day. It's not even healthy. In fact, you will lose weight, and it won't be fat. Water weight is the first to go, then muscle, then fat. So really, even if you're eating healthy food, it's still not enough. Women need at least 1000 calories per day (average around 1200-1600) to maintain a healthy weight. Just out of curiosity, why would you want to eat 600 calories a day if you weren't doing it to lose weight?

yes. 2000-2500 calories a day is recommended to maintain weight. To lose weight, definently NEVER eat less then 1200 calories. If you try and do about 60 to 80 minutes of intense exercise a day, and you eat 2000 calories a day, you will see results. If you eat less calories, say, 1500, then you probably only need to do 30-45 minutes of intense exercise a day. You do NOT want to lose more then 2 lbs a week, as then you will begin to lose muscle. If you want to lose 2 lbs a week, just burn about 1000 more calories then you eat. If you eat 2000 calories per day, you must burn 3000 calories per day.

o yhink is depends on what kind of food u geton eatiing the calories, ex: if u eat 10 chocolate bars that equal 2000 calories i think that will do nothing but make u weak, if u eat healthy food such as apples and other stuff that all equal 2000 calories that will probly help u loose weight, but u do have to exercise!!!!

well, it depends on how much physical activity a certain person does and like also how much the person is eating now....if they eat way over 2000 calories...then they will lose some weight

That is typically the number of calories to maintain your weight, not lose any. You would have to do strenuous work or exercising to lose weight at that number of calories.

2000 calories is roughly what I think adults who are just eating "normally" should be getting.
