My payment has ALWAYS been due around the 20th of the month

and now I get this wacko bill due on 12/13 so I'm being billed 40 dollars because it's late :(

Is there anything I can do about it?

Xenon, the best thing for you to do is to pick up the phone & contact the company that sent you the bill. Calmly explain to them that your billing cycle came a week early this time & request that they waive the fee.

The worst that they can do is say "no". Of course, if they choose to do that then I would recommend that you seek another company to replace this one's services.

Best of luck to you & happy holidays.

Call and complain. If you have a good payment history, they will often waive the late charge and, if you have a zero balance every month, they may waive the finance charge, too. If you carry a balance and pay interest every month, only the late charge would be forgiven. With all of the recent news about sub-prime credit, and the shady practices of raising credit card rates just because someone's credit score dropped and not because of late payments (which Congress has had hearings about), credit card companies are more sensitive to customer issues.

Call the company and plead with them that because of your past regular payment history, you're requesting them to waive the late fee this one time as a courtesy. They will do so if you insist. If the Rep says no, ask to speak with a supervisor. Do not take no for an answer but be polite.

Credit card companies LOVE late fees....they earn billions every year from them....The ever changing due date is one of their favorite tricks to get even more late fees. If you have an excellent record with them you could always call and threaten to close your account if they don't remove the late fee....The problem is...their attitude might be: "go ahead, make our day."

I urge everyone to always pay credit card bills via the card carrier's website rather than mailing checks and to check the online account at least twice a month to check for variable due dates.

Call and explain nicely what happened and that you have never been late before and they will either waive it or atleast half of it.
