Before I start, please forgive me for asking what might be a stupid question. I am 17 and interested in Satanism. I want to learn more about it and make it a part of my life. I researched Satanism at first out of curiosity, but found that what I was reading made a lot of sense and matched my own beliefs quite a bit, so I started to research Satanism to learn more about it and how to make it a part of my life. In my search I found two sites that caught my attention, www.joyofsatan.com and www.churchofsatan.com . I read the welcome links and other things on the two sites. I think I have a basic idea of what they're teaching, but I have a question about them. Do the two sites teach and talk about the same Religion or are they different? And if they are different..how so?

http://joyofsatan.com teaches Theistic Satanism, aka Traditional Satanism, which espouses the belief that Satan is an actual entity, like God. Traditional Satanism is only inverse Christianity. Theistic Satanists believe in Satan as a real entity, and some are also polytheists.
http://churchofsatan.com teaches LaVeyan or Modern Satanism. They view Satan as an allegorical symbol for intelligence, carnal pleasure, nonconformity, courage, etc. and has nothing to do with Christianity or inverse Christianity. They use the myth of Satan simply because they admire his qualities and wish to apply them to their lives. Most Satanists are of the LaVeyan variety.
Also, you should go to the library and check out "The Satanic Bible" and other books by Anton LaVey and any books on theistic and non-theistic Satanism. Authors other than LaVey are Diane Vera, Blanche Barton, Karla LaVey, Peter Gilmore (Magus, CoS), and Michael Aquino (Temple of Set). These are only writers that I know of.
I'm not Satanist (pagan), but I find the philosophy behind LaVeyan Satanism interesting.

While both groups call themselves Satanists, their beliefs are very different. The Church of Satan is an atheistic organization that views Satan as a powerful symbol for many of their beliefs. They are the commonly known face of Satanism. Joyofstan.com is a theistic Satanic site. These Satanists actually believe in and worship a being called Satan, although this figure still differs somewhat from the Christian view of Satan.
Despite both groups calling themselves Satanists, I would deinfitely say they are different religions.

There's a big difference between them.
This one: www.joyofsatan.com actually believes in Satan. They are spiritual satanists.
This one: www.churchofsatan.com does not actually believe in Satan. They are LaVey satanists, and LaVey satanism is basically just atheism making fun of Christianity.

The Church of Satan is the site for LaVeyan Satanism, which is an atheistic belief system.
The other one is a theistic Satanist site, meaning they actually believe in Satan.

the 1st definition isn't misused to make atheists look undesirable....it is atheists who call themselves Satanists interior the 1st place. As for the 2nd definition, this one is a little extra complicated. non secular Satanists (those that worship a particular being it is enormously much on no account the christian devil) on no account sacrifice virgins or chop up animals. they do no longer believe in god, jesus or the bible. diverse concepts of non secular Satanism exist, yet maximum would carry to the thought that mainstream faith is a lie and that the rightful gods have been vilified as demons. the two humanity forgot approximately it is genuine gods, or perhaps the "actual devil" is the entity pronounced as god by making use of maximum non secular human beings. relies upon on the Satanist you're speaking to. In a manner, one ought to evaluate non secular Satanism in step with neo-paganism. regardless of the undeniable fact that Satanists would steer away from the "fluffiness" frequently linked (possibly falsely) with maximum neo-pagans. In the two sense, Satanism is approximately invoking the "darker" components of human nature. no longer that it promotes criminal acts which include homicide, theft and rape. yet somewhat so-pronounced as "sinful" acts which include lust, satisfaction, anger etc. the place as classic faith says you ought to deny your self your person nature and sense shame, Satanists say you ought to embody your genuine nature and be proud approximately it. P.S. i'd fall below the "non secular Satanist" class.
