Me and some friends are planning a road trip to Canada next summer. I have heard some rumors that at the beginning of 2008 you have to have a passport to get back into the US. Is this true? Is this all I need? What do i have to do to get a passport?

Yes as of Summer 2008 you will need a passport to go to Canada, US, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean by LAND, SEA, Or AIR. Right now you only need it for AIR travel.

In order to get a valid US passport you must go to your closest Post Office to get the necessary paperwork and book an appointment time. If you are under 16, then both parents need to be present with you and sign the application form.

It is sort of true. First, if you need your passport to get back into the US, THEN you will need your passport to get into Canada first. The rules are the same both ways.

Then, the "summer of 2008" is a date still to be announced, and has been postponed before, so could be postponed again. But, having said that, it is likely and best to go out and get your passport.

To get a passport pick up an application at a post office or city hall and it check out at the passport website.

i've got self assurance you purely want a sort of identity? possibly a start certificates? i do no longer think of being 18 makes any distinction, as I used to return and forth to the two Canada and Mexico with pals at sixteen and no issues. yet, you are able to wish a passport those days i assume. you may get one in any case, they're sturdy to have.
