"Then Jesus said unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS, and follow me."

Does taking up your cross ever get so heavy that you've felt you could not walk any further?

Sometimes it does feel heavy, but my relationship with God is so real to me there is no way I could ever turn from it. I think I feel like Peter did at one point. Many of Jesus' disciples had left him after he spoke to them about eating his body and drinking his blood.(John, chapter 6). They said that what he told them was a "hard" saying, and who could understand it? Maybe they didn't understand what he was saying and freaked out, but when he turned to Peter and some other disciples and asked them, "are you going to leave me too", Peter said, "where would we go? What would we do, we know you have the words of eternal life, and that you are the son of the living God." Once you've found Jesus, and know the truth, how can you give it up, where would you go? He's our help, our strength, our life, without him, we can do nothing. God Bless.

The scriptural reference is incorrect, but the scripture to which you refer was Jesus talking directly to those who would walk with him. He directed the disciples to not take scrip, change of clothes, etc. with them. He told the rich young man to give up all he had and follow him, which he would not do. The first century church members did likewise in The Acts of the Apostles. \

As to whether or not the cross a Christian bears gets heavy, it should not. As Christ said in Matthew 11:30 that his yoke was easy and his burden is light. Once you walk upright, you find it was the sinful life that was a burden.

Commitment to Christ means to take up your cross daily, giving up your hopes, dreams, possessions, even your very life if need be for the cause of Christ. Only if you willingly take up your cross may you be called His disciple (Luke 14:27). The reward is worth the price. Jesus followed His call of death to self (“Take up your cross and follow Me”) with the gift of life in Christ: "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25-26).

It means we have God's calling to do and that we are to surrender our to will to God's will for out lives as Jesus Christs calling was to die on the cross so that man could be reconciled to God again.

If we don't have the strength to carry it on our cross own as Jesus did on the road to Calvary God will provide someone to help bear our cause and cross for God's glory in our lives. The important things is to be obedient to our calling. That way another person down the road can be obedient to God's calling for their lives as well.

That is a nice question and this insight just came to me now as most of my answers do when I post here. God bless.

The Cross was GOD's will for his Christ. Our cross is to do the will of GOD. His plan for our lives.

Over the years and countless times my cross has seemed to heavy. That is when I learn the most about GOD.

people will say they are Christians and then do the very things Jesus came to save them from- all in the name of Christianity! following after false gods, and keeping pagan festivals, breaking the "thou shat not lie" just so the kiddies can enjoy themselves-santa- tooth fairy- easter bunny etc... take up the real cross and see how heavy it gets! keep the commandments of God and not the traditions of men!!!!

sister Virginia, the scripture means to deny your flesh and live in and by the spirit, killing the old man and living in the will of God....having a personal relationship with Him and do not follow the world and its fleshly desires...baring the cross is never easy but well worth it..by living by Gods Word(the bible) and staying in Gods will we have joy unspeakable and peace that surpasses all understanding...Merry Christmas and God Bless you and yours

Sometimes the cross does get heavy, usually when we've let the world let us get our focus off the Lord. When we are focused on Him, He helps us carry it.
