Best sources of information on the strike:

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/ - Nikki Finke's site

When songwriters write songs, they get the royalties. When authors write books, they get the royalties. When film and television writers write, it's the same thing. They're entitled to the residuals. This is their health insurance and retirement and kids' lunch money we're talking about.

Most writers don't drive big cars or own mansions. They write a film or for a show and when it's over, they're out of a job until the next one comes along - if it comes along. They depend on the residuals from their work to survive.

Writers took an 80 percent cut on residuals when home video was just starting out in order to help grow that "new media" and then never got it back. They get four cents when you buy a DVD. I think home video is a proven market now. Writers are only asking for four more cents.

The AMPTP is the one walking away from the table. Read the articles and you'll see that all the writers are doing is refusing to work for less than the guys that BURN the movies onto the DVD.

They are still on strike. No new updates. They had another round of negotiations last week but no progress. It is hard to say when it will end.

Feel free to check out my profile. I think even though I am , or was a part , a very small part of that area of the entertainment field, the website I provided above would be helpful.

Essentially, all the members of the WGA need fired and then the WGA needs dissolved. There are a ton of aspiring writers waiting to fill their shoes. Fire the writers. ALL of them!

There's plenty of info, since it's been written up in newspapers and magazines and covered on news shows. If you want basic information on the issues, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ55Ir2jCxk
