okay. so basically i have narrowed it down to three kind of dogs i am intrested in, a Doberman, a collie, or a weimaraner/
i already have one dog, and i will be getting a puppy, and i will have alot of time to devote to exersisng the dog, cuz i'm home all day and we have a huge backyard and i love to run. but i can't decide between those three. so can everyone please give there opinions on what time of dog they think i should get?!?
thank you soo much.

I don't know about the other breeds, but I have always owned Rough Collies (like Lassie). I have had 5 Collies over my life (Their life spans max out at about 14 yrs which is sad!)
I have had other dogs as well, but the Collie is the "Libra" of dogs -- they just want everyone to get along. My collies are so good that I get them their own pets. About 5 months ago, I brought home a little 6wk old kitten (My dog had never seen a cat) and pretty much left the kitten in the dogs care. You should see it: A itty bitty kitty attacking a huge dog that just lays there "smiling" and wagging his tail. He loves it! They will 'herd" ducks, sheep, cats, children, owners, other dogs, etc... which can be annoying when you want to walk a straight line to the mailbox, but your Collie cuts you off and forces you to the side.
They are so good and gentle to other animals and to children. Their only problem is is that they get their feelings hurt so easily, so you have to be careful how people talk to them because Collies can get "cowered down" and that breaks my heart when I see people who have scared collies.

I own two of the brreds you are considering. Dobes and Weims.
Depending on what breed of dog you have now and what sex that dog is will depend on what you should be looking at.
Dobermans do not do well in same sex pairs. They also tend to play very hard and rough and like to chase and play very aggressive with other dogs. This may or may not do well with the dog you have now.
Weims are very smart but need to have lots of training and exercise. They do not play as hard as the Dobes but like to be out and have time to run every day. We work ours in the field at least once per day every day.
Collies are herding dogs and they are going to require much more grooming time than the other breeds. They will do better with other dogs than the Dobes.

I have a male Weim! He is a great dog, they do require long walks. They can be stubborn if not taught leadership early on. I would recommend obedience school. they do have separation anxiety when left alone for long periods of time. Keep researching all the breeds and see which one will fit your life style. If you decide to get a weim there are allot in shelters cause people thought that the dog was beautiful and had to have one than realized it was not the dog for them. Good Luck

Well you should probably get a breed that is compatible with whatever dog you have now and the new dog shouldn't be too territorial so the old dog doesn't feel taken over. Weimaraner is a good choice.

WEIMARANER!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE those dogs. I already have three. They love kids. Not one for kennels they would rather be part of the family. Most people hunt with them but i don't like to hunt. They get along with other dogs very well. GREAT parents. Hope i helped and hope you get the one you really want. Hope i convinced you. Sorry for all the hopes.

I'd say a collie or doberman. I've heard weims are a little on the stubborn side. Collies are very intelligent, but so are dobes. I'd say if you are considered about the shedding, get a doberman =) They are all great dogs.

I'd get a collie, they are cute, nice, and do love to play and get exercise. They are really loyal dogs!
Good luck, congrats on getting your new puppy! I hope I helped!

Go to the shelter or your local breed rescue for the ones you named. They will help match you to the perfect dog! Good luck!

I'd veto the collie if you're concerned about shedding because of the three you're looking into, this one sheds much more than the other two. Other than that, they're all great dogs!
