I am having a plantation wedding
www.myrtlesplantation.com
it is a 1700's antubellum home with beautiful interior and stunning grounds. 120 foot veranda , amazing back courtyard with fountain. and another area with a gazebo.
the rate for a wedding there is 500 and they have a on site resturant for catering. they also offer an A/B plan in case of weather.
the home was listed in Forbes , Oprah , unsolved mysteries, ghost hunters, Montel williams .. ETC
it is allegled that is it the most haunted home in Louisiana.
the rooms are stunning espcially the main suite
( breathtaking )
to take a look at some of the pics i have taken from the plantation and learn more about it we have a wedding website
I have tons of information about the plantation , if you look at the link on my page that says TAP MYRTLES
there is video about the plantation from when ghost hunters went out there , but you will see how stunning the grounds are. also there is a link for hotel on my page and it list about 7-8 other area plantations for people to stay at you might find something there as well ......good luck

Go to TheKnot.com. Look up reception sites (including large plantation sites) in states like Georgia and Virginia. I'm sure many of these plantation sites also offer over-night accommodations.
I think a southern destination wedding sounds fabulous. Good luck planning.

If you do have the wedding in the south make sure to take into account the weather of the area. Not everywhere has as nice of weather as the West Coast. Otherwise you could get rained on or be too hot to have an outdoor event.

Charlotte,
So your a "Southern Bell" are you? How cool is this! My daughter would do anything to be the "Southern Bell" type, she loves the Southern Hospitality they gave to her when she & her Beau traveled! Okay, well you can either go to a place here in Arizona called "Oatman" and give them a "Jingle" first.....It's a tourist town, and they have burrow's walking through the streets and they also have cowboy's like everywhere there, and lots of stores and shops, and I'm sure they can accomidate you and yours to where to go for your "Ideal Southern Wedding" or they just may even rent out one of their homes for you to get married in! I'm not sure which. But, this whole town is made up all about the "Old Western" days, and its a very Popular spot for the "Tri-State" area folks who are all familiar with Oatman. You can also go to their studio and get an Old Western Photo of everyone you would want in the photo looking just like in the Cowboy Days!! They give the guys the whole vest & rifle cowboy boots and flaps, stirs and all..!!! Then they give the women the whole Ballroom dress look if they so desire, or if they also want to look like that one country pistel packin' Mama they can look like her instead! And the photo's have that whole brown looking edgy look to make it look older than todays looking photo's. It's all so cool. Up there in Oatman!! It's about an hour's drive from Kingman Arizona, and a hour & 1/2 from Laughlin! It's in the middle of nowhere, but it's an "Awesome Place" to get married at! So long as they have all of the commodoties you need for a "Southern Bell" type of wedding. Just go to Yahoo's Yellow Pages, and look for Oatman Arizona.... And give someone a call at any of their stores they'll know where and who to direct you to! Good Luck, and Congratulations to you & yours! Smile!!!

How about a movie set? If you have enough money, build one yourself.
