Infections like pink eye that is very contagious will cause the eye to go red. Also foreign objects like hair, dust, chemicals will irritate the eyeball and it will redden. If it is red and painful you need to see a doctor. Letting it go could lead to blindness.

leaving eye makeup on or contacts in overnite. not enough sleep . check with dr if it continues.

histamines, infection, or dryness. start to rule it out one at a time.

anything that's not suppose to be in them. . . also pink eye
