Because the U.S. has a lax public education system and a strong Christian cult movement which creates a more ignorant population.

America has split the church into so many denominations, sects and cults that most churches have lost contact with Christianity. They have changed the Christian religion to make them the chosen people. Sadly at the final coming it will be the devil doing their choosing!!!

The creationists are nearly all fundamentalists and they are not Christian but are instead ideologues - there is a huge difference!!!!

The person who thought the Pope believed in creationism obviously missed the fact that he recognised evolution as fact this year!!!!! But then perhaps that person thinks God was too stupid to be able to use evolution as his tool!!!!

With all those wonderful museums and universities in Europe, they're bound to learn something, and it's obvious that they'd rather not. Besides, I'm sure they know they'd get the same treatment in Europe they'd get here in the US: laughed at. Nobody in their right mind on *any* continent is going to take that bs seriously.

Globally, the ONLY place where the "average citizen" is LESS likely to believe in evolution is Turkey. I'm sure that makes the average American Creationist VERY proud. A little more hard work, and they can demand the same kind of global respect Turkey earns!

It's just pitiful, isn't it?

Because of the cummulative effects of WWI and WWII?

Even in the holy land of Israel there is the ever present danger that some non-profit religion will try to bomb known holy sites?

Heh, I was going to make a comment about them evolving further and then I read your detail.

Actually, though, Europe kicked out most of their religious loonies hundreds of years ago. Unfortunately, they all came to the New World and formed the USA.

It is because most of "western" Europe is moving away from using theocracy as a way of influencing the masses.

im sure there is... but to a much lesser degree. i would have to think that having every religion ever invented touching their soil at some point in time would have given them an insight into almost every religion that has ever existed.
common sense tells me... they are seeing this as... been there... done that....were all done with religion and its woes
just my opinion
have a great day

Because in America...

People are free to be "ludicrously absurd in their beliefs" if they want to...

And obviously...

A lot of people here want to...

("Thinking" and using your "brain" is very difficult for some people, so they just choose a particularly "hare-brained belief" and stick with it no matter how "incredibly preposterous" it is...)

Require almost no effort on their part to do that...and that is why they do that...
