You couldn't just change the engine, you'd also have to change the transmission, suspension, etc. Unless you got lucky and found a donor Grand Cherokee SRT-8 that got rolled or something, this would be a VERY expensive project. Even with the donor car, it would still be tens of thousands (a rolled SRT 8 will still not be cheap even if you find one).
The other problem would be that the Commander is more top heavy than the GC, so it would never handle as well, perhaps not even well enough to take advantage of all that power.
Better just to put some custom rims/tires or whatever on your commander to dress it up a bit, but don't try to do the whole SRT8 conversion unless you have a lot of throw away money lying around.
Good luck

I'm sure with som $$$ and time it can be done. The better question would be why? The new jeeps get terrible gas mileage as it is, why would you want to make it worse by putting a bigger less efficient motor in the vehicle?
If I were you I would swap out the stock motor for the 4.0L HO I6 engine from an older model Jeep. Much better motors, better gas mileage, a lot more reliable.
Those "HEMI" engines are way over-rated. They have less power than the same size engine in the new Toyota Tundra pickups, and get worse gas mileage.
If I were you though truthefully I would try a conversion to the original 426 HEMI from the 60's. That engine would turn more heads than the new so called HEMI's.

Be little easier to buy the Hemi and put in the 6.1L Cams and few other parts allot cheaper and you have a SRT Commander.
check out
www.dodgetalk.com also of Hemi Trucks and Durangos guys are doing that.

The engine physically bolts in if you have the 5.7 V8 already in the Commander, as they have the same external dimensions. You may need new motor mounts or a new K-frame if you start with a 3.7 or 4.7 model. The biggest hitch I can see is electronics - it may be possible to just swap the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) over into the Commander, or it may take some creative rewiring.

Probably could be done, doesn't seem worth it to me. Buy a Commannder if you like them and add whatever modifications you wish.
