My neighbor gave me a little dish of sour cream and said it was for the cat. I guess she thought she was being nice. Does sour cream contain ingredients other than milk that could harm the cat. She does drink milk occasionally with no bad effects.

It's a good way to give your cat diarrhea. Unless it's light or fat free, it contains more fat than your cat's digestive system will be able to handle. It could also result in acute pancreatitis if your cat isn't used to "high fat" snacks. I would be cautious about it. Milk really isn't good for adult animals in general, and sour cream is definitely worse. You could try giving your cat a small amount and see what happens, but don't give it too much.

Milk and cream/sour cream are both very bad for cats. You will not notice any health problems in your cat but the cat can not digest it and could have problems in later life. If you want to give your cats milk the only type that is safe to give them is milk for cats which you can buy from the pet section of any supermarket. Both Felix and Whiskas do a formula. It is not normal milk but specially formulated for cats so will do them no harm. Just keep a bowl of fresh water out all the time, change it several times a day to keep out stray cat hairs, and your cat will soon start to drink whenever he/she needs.

Yogurt with active cultures in it is supposed to be good for the digestive system, especially if the natural balance has been disturbed by antibiotics. I don't see why a little sour cream wouldn't work the same way. Just watch the amount as the fat content is higher than yogurt.

I wouldnt give her a lot...I dont think it has any other ingredients that will hurt her, but most adult animals are lactose intolerant. if you have given her milk in the past withouth problem, she should be okay, but I still would not give her the sour cream...just dosnt sound pleasant.

cats are carnivourous. Unlike dogs, who are actually omnivores. Dogs can handle a little more veggie and milk based foods than cats can, which is why some people give their dogs yogurt for digestive assistance. it probably wont give the cat the same benifit, as they are designed to consume a different diet.

I don't think it's very good for cats, you can get special cat milk in pet stores though. It may be expensive but better than risking your cat being poorly.
