O.K you asked for it!
The phone rings, a little boy answers (always in a barely audible whisper),
"Hello."
The caller says," Oh hello, can I talk to your mummy"?
"No, she's not here"
"Well can I talk to your daddy"?
"No, he's not here either"
"O.K. are there any other grown ups there"?
"Yes, some policemen, some soldiers and lots of neighbours"
"Policemen, soldiers and neighbours, what on earth are they all doing there"?
"They're looking for me"!
O.K, so it might be too long for a xmas cracker gag, but I fail to see who the victim is in this scenario, and even if there is one, "what the hell"!
Others peoples misfortune are funny when taken in and out of context. Here's another old chestnut:
Two eggs are being boiled in a saucepan, one turns to the other and says,
"Blimey, it's getting hot in here"!
The other egg says,
"You think this is bad, wait 'till you get outside, they bash you head in with a spoon!"
The talking eggs are "victims" but they taste lovely with a bit of toast!

Well, if you make self-deprecating humor it only makes a victim of yourself.
So, I guess that makes self-deprecating humor the second most uplifting emotion a human can have after masturbation.
Right?
[by the way, if you think that is funny, notice that there is no victim involved]

Yes, I disagree too.
And sex is not an emotion.
Proof? Proof of what? You can laugh at an object that looks really funny, or a poem that someone wrote. Where's the victim then?

Those with the best sense of humour are those who can laugh at themselves
I dont mind being a humour 'victim' once in a while
People should lighten up a little

Brimming over with wrongability. There doesn't have to be a victim. Eddie Izzards comedy certainly doesn't have victims. There are countless comedians working the UK circuit that have victimless jokes.

I enjoy using the comedy technique of self-deprecation - but I'm not very good at it
A dog goes into a hardware store and says: "I'd like a job please". The hardware store owner says: "We don't hire dogs, why don't you go join the circus?" The dog replies: "What would the circus want with a plumber".
but it is funnier with a victim...
"An American girl hit on me in a club and asked me to make her an Egyptian princess. So I threw a sheet over her head and told her to be quiet. "

I think those who enjoy humour with victims are only trying to forget their own problems through laughing at someone else

The key is, the butt of the joke has to be someone who richly deserves it.
That's why Bugs Bunny is so funny, and Mr. Bean is just flat-out revolting.

Sometimes we have to learn to laugh at ourselves. Only than are the jokes truely funny. It took me many years to learn this and I have never regretted it.

quit goofing on pangel...without her, i'd be the only person in this forum who doesn't instinctively go off on you...there's nothing wrong with a corny joke...sometimes the funniest jokes are the truly bad ones...
