Many years ago I went through an unwanted divorce and found myself in deep depression and despair. I was losing weight and could not sleep. After losing about 40 pounds and looking like crap I came to the place that many unbelievers come. I turned to God.
I fell on my knees and prayed for the first time to "just let me find some peace to sleep." In the dark I felt a warm feeling flow over me and I felt so tired. I was crying and just wiped out. I laid down on the bed and slept all the rest of the night. I woke up refreshed and took a shower and went to work. I didn't really think anything of it, but I never had trouble sleeping again.
I was still a Darwinist at heart and I fought God for many more years until my eyes were opened to His presence those years before. I have since felt His presence many, many times and I have gotten the answers to many of my questions. Now, He doesn't "talk" to me with an audible voice, but I get the drift and I have been comforted and protected many times.
I have heard it said that someone would believe when they see a miracle. I believe and see His miracles all the time. I'll never go back to where is was!

I do not believe them if I find out they are abusing children.
I do however know God speaks to people because he has spoken to me. I am an average joe, no one special.

I do not disbelieve anyone who says that unless they are diagnosed with some type of schizophrenia. And then I question whether they are diagnosed or not. It highly depends on their circumstances or station in life. If I listen to one who has had a near death experience no matter the circumstance then I know is credible.

It would help a lot if they would get a recording of his voice. Most " speaking" to or "hearing from" god is through mental messages . Some call them "voice of god " , some call it "run away imagination " , some call it "trickery ", some coall it " outright lies " . Take your pick .

God did speak to them. He told them not to abuse children and not to steal in the bible. They chose to ignore it.

Some people really believe that God talks to them, it is not up to me to dispell their beliefs.

I will stick to your question and leave the nonsense that follows it out of my mind.
If they claim this, then it would seem they are contradicting what parts of the Bible say.

No. Non-objective evidence is not useful in convincing me. Evidence has to be objective, verifiable, validatable to be useful.
