April, definitely.
Crowds are huge in July, and it can be very hot.
Go in later April, to avoid spring break crowds, which peak around Easter.

I would definately, definately come in April. The crowds are much smaller and you'll get some great weather. You may get some rain, but it won't be terribly cold. Even if it rains, you'll still enjoy yourself because most of the rides are inside and still operate (with almost no lines!) in the rain. My favorite times I've had at Disneyland are rain-days when I've been able to run on and off Space Mountain 4-5 times in a row within one hour.
April is beautiful in So.Cal because it is clear and there is almost no smog, also it's when fewer tourists are around. In July it's almost impossible to move on weekend days in the parks because they are so packed.
No matter when you go, make sure to check ahead and see which rides will be closed for repairs, which are more frequent durring April.

April, as long as you avoid the week before Easter. The weather is better and it is less crowded. In July, it is crowded, hot, and humid.

If you go in April make sure the kids are not on spring break. I went one year in APril and boy did I regret it. It was so crowded that it was not enjoyable at all.

April is my favorite time of year to visit there because of the weather and the lighter crowds. Been there hundreds and hundreds of times.
